Game Format 1. Game time is forfeit time. 2. Each game will have a 15 minutes to be completed and first team to 15 points and win by two wins the game to advance. 3. Odd or even choice determines which team puts the ball in play to start the contest. For the rest of the game (including subsequent games) the alternating possession rule is in effect. 4. All field goals within the 3-point line will count as one point. Any made shot beyond the 3-point line will count as two. 5. Co-Rec Scoring: All field goals made by a male will be the same scoring as above. Females will be awarded 2 points for field goals within the 3-point line, and 3 points for any shot made behind the 3 point line. 6. Teams will alternate possession on made baskets. The ball must be passed in after made baskets. 7. The defensive player must give the offensive player that checked the ball in, at least 3 feet to pass the ball to a teammate. 8. Every time the ball changes possession, it must be taken back (both feet and the ball) anywhere behind the threepoint line. This must be done even if a shot has not been taken. If a team does not take the ball back properly then the play is dead at the first shot attempt by the violating team. This will result in a turnover. 9. Each team will be required to take a shot at the basket within 25 seconds after taking possession. The rule has been implemented to eliminate a team from stalling to retain possession near the end of the game. Violations of this rule, including non-legitimate shots, will results in an offensive turnover and possession for the defending team. 10. There will be no timeouts during the game. Substitutions may be made at anytime during a dead ball. 11. Overtime Procedures: If a game is tied at the end of regulation, the winner will be determined by a shootout. The shootout will consist of three players from each team shooting free throws. A coin flip will decide the order that the teams shoot. Each player will shoot one free throw. The team with the
highest total made will be the winner. If there remains a tie, a sudden-victory shootout will occur (equal opportunities, until one team makes and other misses). 12. In the championship game if the game is tied at the end of regulation, there will be a two minute running clock. If after the 2 minute overtime the game is still tied, we will then revert back to regular free throw shootout overtime procedures listed above. 13. Teams will officiate their own games. 14. Sportsmanship violations, cheating, and other blatant rule violations including repeated intentional fouling or flagrant fouling will not be tolerated. The Intramural Sports staff (site supervisors or administrative staff) reserves the right to stop any game at any time and disqualify one or both teams for such violations. 15. If at any time during a game there is a disagreement about a call/rule, the game must restart again within 30 seconds or both teams will receive a loss for that game. Common fouls (non-shooting) result in loss of possession for the offending team. Offensive fouls shall result in disallowing any converted basket and loss of possession. Shooting fouls with a missed basket shall result in retained possession for the shooting team (recheck). Shooting fouls with a converted basket shall result in the basket counted and loss of possession (no penalty, play continues as if there was no foul with the defense taking the ball).
