Hello Members, Greetings! Hope you are keeping warm and cosy, it has been freezing!
52nd Annual General Meeting (AGM) First and foremost, I wish to draw your attention to our upcoming 52nd AGM on Sunday 20th August 2017 at the Horticultural Centre, 82 Jolimont Road, Forest Hill, commencing around 3.30 pm. Please note the AGM notice together with nomination form and proxy form which are included in this newsletter. They will also be sent to members by post. At the AGM, one of the agenda items will be the election of the 2017-18 Committee. All positions on the Committee will be declared vacant and elections will be held for those positions. Any financial member who is eligible may nominate himself or herself; or with the member’s consent, be nominated by another member. We invite all financial members who are interested in joining the Committee to nominate.
Heartfelt thanks It was indeed an honour and privilege for me to serve as your President in the last twelve months. I am very grateful for all the support and encouragement from my Committee and from members. Thank you to all our members and family and friends who have participated in our functions and activities. We truly value your friendship and support! I was fortunate indeed to have the assistance and guidance from a very competent and hardworking Committee. A big thank you to all the Committee members and their spouses. My work would not be possible without their help. Special thanks to Anthony Tung who joined the Committee last year and is our Website Administrator. He led us to the digital age. The Hong Kong Club website, our new look newsletter and email campaign for our functions are all due to the hard work and initiatives of Anthony. As previously reported, our land in Phillip Island was successfully sold. We were pleased that the sale price of $285,000 was achieved. For our Club to be in such a good financial position, we wholeheartedly thank our predecessors for their foresight and hard work. Our Committees, present and future, will endeavour to utilise the resulting proceeds wisely and in the best possible ways for the benefits of all our members.
In the past twelve months, we have participated and supported many events and functions organised by the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office, and various community groups. We thank them for their friendship and support. The Hong Kong Club is to be congratulated for its good reputation and standing in the community. Advance notice of our Dinner Dance Our 53rd Anniversary Dinner Dance will be held on Saturday 28th October 2017 at the Manningham Convention Centre, Bulleen. Further details will be provided in due course. We look forward to seeing you there. Report on recent activities We sincerely thank all the members, family and friends who continue to support our monthly dinners and activities. Every month for the last four months, over 30 people have joined us for dinner at the Golden Dragon Palace Restaurant. The Committee has worked very hard to organise interesting activities at the Forest Hill Horticultural Centre. In May about 50 people enjoyed a karaoke afternoon. Our thanks go to Michael Tse and John Ho for organising the equipment. We had a fun mah-jong competition in June. Congratulations to our member Angela Poon who was the ultimate winner! In July, we were very fortunate that 馮健強中醫師 (Sam Feng) joined us and gave us a lesson on 氣功拉筋運動課 , a form of Chi Gong Exercises. About 50 people attended and all agreed that the exercises are of great benefits to our health. We look forward to having further lessons from 馮醫師. Please join us at our AGM! Cheers.

Please check with Lawrence (our membership secretary) if your email address is correct in our membership database so everyone will receive our club newsletters and notices on our activities and gatherings. To help us with catering, an “I will be there” message with numbers of participants will be very much appreciated.

Membership Fee: For NEW MEMBERS AND MEMBERSHIP RENEWAL The annual membership subscription is $15.00 for all new members or membership renewal, and the fee for permanent membership is $150.00. The membership expiry date is on 1st July each year and please renew by 31st July. The membership renewal form can be downloaded from our website at hongkongclub.com.au/en/membership-renewal.

52nd Annual General Meeting Notice Notice is hereby given that the 52nd Annual General Meeting for the Hong Kong Club Incorporated will be held on Sunday 20th August 2017 at the Horticultural Centre, 82 Jolimont Road, Forest Hill 3131. (Melway Ref: 62 F4). The AGM will commence at around 3:30 pm. Nomination for Officers and Committee members of the Hong Kong Club for 2017-18 is now open and will be closed on Sunday 20th August 2017 at 3:30pm in accordance to Rule 51 of the Hong Kong Club Incorporated’s Rules 2014. Please note only financial members are eligible to nominate for Officer or Committee positions or to vote at the AGM so you need to have a permanent membership or a current yearly membership. As all yearly membership expires on 30th June 2017, please renew your membership by 31st July 2017 to be eligible. • • •

A member may appoint another member as his or her proxy to vote or speak on his or her behalf at the AGM. Nomination Form and/or Proxy Form, if sent by post, must be received by the Club by 5.00 pm, Friday 18th August 2017 to be effective. Alternatively the forms can be handed-in to the Secretary before the commencement of the AGM on Sunday 20th August 2017. (Rule 34) The Nomination form and the Proxy form are posted to our financial members.
