“In a recent survey carried out, 73% of parents said they were satisfied with school meals while 21% said they were very satisfied”
An average 7 year old child needs 1590 calories a day. (www.nhs.co.uk).
“We serve 9.5 million meals per year!”
“We order almost 90,000 kilos of carrots and 1,084,732 organic meatballs per year”
You may think by offering children a dessert everyday means that they are consuming extra calories, however the recipes are carefully designed, sugar levels are kept to a minimum, and ingredients carefully monitored. There is fresh fruit and organic yoghurt available daily for all children.
We always encourage children to try new tastes, coupled with the relaxed family dining environment, it is hoped that children will be more adventurous with their food choices.
We promote healthy balanced meals which are crucial for child development and wellbeing. Studies have proven that eating well is vital for concentration and learning in class.
Happy Children Learn and Achieve
• Children eat a delicious, healthy balanced dinner!
• School kitchens are given the new menus to enable them to place orders.
• The menu is designed, printed and sent to schools for distribution.
• The main menu is then finalised, further testing takes place if required. Special diet menus are then created to ensure that all dietary requirements are catered for.
• New recipes and products are trialled by our menu group and tasted by our customers.
• The procurement team continually source new products for the menu, with the emphasis on using local suppliers where possible. (See map on previous page.)
• Each meal is carefully planned taking into consideration variety, seasonal produce, popularity of dishes and meeting the requirements of the School Food Plan. They are nutritionally analysed using specially designed software meaning that all meals are healthy and balanced.
• Our menu follows a 3 week cycle that changes twice a year.
