Bole&n Informa&vo de 6th Grado P.S. 188 The Island School o P.S. 1a88 The Island Bienvenidos l sexto grado y el año Sechool scolar 2014-‐2015! Hemos tenido un comienzo increíble y sus
maestros, la señora Almonte, Sra Mulcahy, y el Sr. Parys estan entusiasmados por el próximo año! Queremos que los estudiantes sobresalgan dentro y fuera del salón de clases y la mejor manera de hacer esto es tener una clara comprensión de los obje&vos y las expecta&vas para cada clase. Los estudiantes deben familiarizarse con la polí&ca de calificaciones en cada clase, y tratar de chequiar sus calificaciones en los grados de Júpiter tan a menudo como sea posible para realizar un seguimiento de ellos. En matemá&cas, al principio del mes los estudiantes repasaron cómo sumar y restar fracciones. Los estudiantes también trabajaron en la mul&plicación de fracciones con números enteros, con fracciones y números mixtos también. Actualmente estamos trabajando en Ra&os, más específicamente el estudio y el aprendizaje de los conceptos y el lenguaje de las relaciones y las tarifas unitarias, así como el uso de razonamiento proporcional para resolver problemas. Vamos a con&nuar con esta unidad hasta mediados de octubre. En la clase y como parte de su tarea diaria, los estudiantes están u&lizando IXL, un programa de matemá&cas en la red del internet , para mejorar sus habilidades en matemá&cas.

En Humanidades este mes los estudiantes están descubriendo elementos de las primeras civilizaciones. Los estudiantes están aprendiendo cómo u&lizar Microso` Word que van a u&lizar para escribir su primer ensayo narra&vo personal &tulado simplemente "mi héroe". Los estudiantes aprenderan sobre el uso de lista de verificación, para que puedan corregir su propio trabajo, así como corregir el de sus compañeros. La úl&ma semana de sep&embre vamos a empezar a inves&gar Mitologías griega, dioses griegos y la an&gua civilización griega. Los estudiantes estarán par&cipando en el Desado de libro 100 y deben leer 30 minutos cada noche. Todos los viernes vamos a tener un quiz de el vocabulario y / o otras ac&vidades de esa semana

Welcome to the 6th grade and the 2014-2015 school year! We are off to an amazing start and P.S. your 1 teachers, Almonte, Ms. Mulcahy, and Mr. Parys are excited for the upcoming 88 The Ms. Island School year! We want students to excel in and out of the classroom and the best way to keep track of that is by having a clear understanding of the goals and expectations for each class. Students should get familiar with the grading policy in each class, and try to check their grades on Jupiter Grades as often as possible to keep track of them. Please fell free to contact the 6th grade teachers via email. Ms. Almonte, the Math teacher, can be contacted at [email protected] You can also call and make an appointment, we are available for appointments every Tuesday from 2:50 to 4:10pm.

Math In math, at the beginning of the month students reviewed how to add and subtract fractions. Students also worked on multiplying fractions with whole numbers, with fractions and mixed numbers as well. We are currently working on Ratios, more specifically studying and learning the concepts and language of ratios and unit rates, as well as using proportional reasoning to solve problems. We will continue with this unit until the middle of October. In Class and as part of their daily homework, students are using IXL, an online Math Program, to enhance their math skills.
In Humani&es this month students are discovering elements of the early civiliza&ons. Students are learning how to use Microso` Word which they will use to write their first personal narra&ve essay simply &tled “My Hero”. Students will be trained on how to use Checklist, so they can correct their own work, as well as to be corrected by their peers. The last week of September we will start inves&ga&ng Greek Mythologies, Greek gods and ancient Greek civiliza&on. Students will be par&cipa&ng in the 100 Book Challenge and should be reading 30 minutes a night. Every Friday we will have a quiz on vocabulary and/or other ac&vi&es from that week
