Nathan writes......6th November 2016 Later this week we will be marking Remembrance Day or Armistice Day. The events surrounding the 11th November seem to have grown in the way it has been marked in recent years. More people turning up in village and town squares to pay their respects and there has been a rise in the way it is market outside of official ceremonies. This could be because of the focus on it being 100 years on from the First World War but I also wonder whether it is because we are now more aware of conflicts and war around the world and the sacrifices made in the past now feel more real. Remembrance Day is one of the few corporate events in our cultures calendar. It is a moment when we pause and remember those who gave their lives for our freedom and those who today have given their lives or had their lives taken in conflict and war. Pausing to think about death is not something we do very often but in Remembrance Day I think we also see hope and as Christians Remembrance Day can speak of the one who is hope. We remember those who fought for peace but sadly peace has not remained but in Jesus we hold on to the hope of eternal peace. We remember those who have served their country and honour them and through Jesus we have hope that those who serve his kingdom will be honoured. We remember men and women who have sacrificed their lives for the freedom of others and that th points Next to the Evening ultimate Service sacrifice6made by Jesus which gives the hope of freedom that transcends all November. earthly freedom. Aswe look towards the 11th of the 11th on Friday let us remember them but let us also remember Him.
