2007 ‐ 2012 AADT Trend Report Average Annual Daily Traffic (AADT) over a 24 hour period for all days of the year including week‐ ends and holidays. (Please refer to the 2007 – 2012 AAWDT Trend Report for the Average Annual Weekday Traffic, which only includes Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday traffic.) Traffic Volumes The following listing includes traffic counts obtained with automatic traffic recorders over the past six years. The volume shown is the total of all vehicles in both directions over a 24 hour period for a typical weekday.    A blank cell indicates no count was undertaken that year.  Volumes that were obtained from counts conducted during that year are displayed in bold font.  Volumes that were estimated from 12 hour counts conducted during that year are displayed in bold italic font. The estimated daily volumes are derived from hourly factors at permanent counting sites.  Volumes that were estimated from counts conducted in previous years are displayed in grey font. Estimated volumes are derived from growth factors at permanent counting sites, applied to the most recent actual count volume at a given location. Seasonal Adjustments Volumes are based on counts of one or two day duration (usually completed between May to June and September to October) and are adjusted to reflect an average weekday during the year. Adjustments are based on variations by time of year measured at permanent count locations that monitor traffic year round. Year to Year Volume Changes ‐ Interpretation of Results An increase or decrease in volume does not necessarily indicate a trend for a given roadway. Some areas may record a temporary change in volume due to the reconstruction of a roadway segment. Although every attempt is made to avoid counting areas while diversions are in effect, some roadway projects affect traffic patterns for a long period of time and are reflected in the counts. For example, the 2012 construction program included:  Jasper Avenue (100 Street – 102 Street)  66 Street (167 Avenue – Anthony Henday Drive North)  137 Avenue (163 street – 184 Street)  Winterburn Road (Webber Greens Drive – Whitemud Drive)  Kingsway Avenue (105 Street – 108 Street)  Grierson Hill bridge A second factor affecting the traffic volume numbers since 2009 has been the introduction of more advanced traffic counting equipment. The new equipment uses Vehicle Magnetic Imaging (VMI) technology to detect vehicles whereas the older equipment uses hoses to detect axles. The biggest decline in AAWDT attributed to this factor will be on the designated truck routes throughout the city.
