Playoff action gets underway tonight as both the baseball and softball teams square off in best-of-three matchups against highly regarded competition. The Bulldogs tout a 15-5-1 record, and a 9-0 sweep of foes in District 26-3A. “We beat them earlier in the season, but they are much improved,” said Wyatt. “They probably have one of the best pitchers in the area, and have won twelve games in a row.” Game one is scheduled for tonight at 7:00 Kyle Gray is batting .442, with an ERA of PM at JFK High School 1.46 on the year. Junior Bret Leigh Nance punched her ticket to the state track meet in two events, qualifying in both the 800 and 1600 Meter Runs at the Region IV track meet held last weekend at D. W. Rutledge Stadium in Converse. “The Regional meet was tough!” said head coach Brandi Mumme. “It was one of the most competitive meets I have seen in a while. Our girls did really well!” In addition to Nance’s first place finish in the 1600 and second place finish in the 800, school records we set in both the 4x100 M Relay (Abbie Culton, Gracie Edmondson, Charlsey Smith, Shayna Srackangast, 50.7), and triple jump (Abbie Culton, 35’ 7 1/2”). “We improved our time in almost every event,” said Mumme. “I am very proud of this team! They left everything on the track!” Nance advances to the state meet for her third year in a row. “Bret Leigh ran an incredible race in both the 800 Meters and the 1600 Meters,” said Mumme. “State will be tough competition, but I expect Bret to do well.” “Our three seniors—Lexee Jenkins, Charlsey Smith, and Abbie Culton—will always have a special place in my heart! Each of them will graduate as either a school record holder and/or a state qualifier.” “I would like to say a special thank you to Coach Hack for all her help! I greatly appreciate all she does to help the girls be successful.”
