Discussion Questions: • Have you ever tried to hide from your parents when you did something wrong? • Have you ever tried to hide from God? Is that even possible? • Have you ever felt scared or all alone? Who is always with you no matter how you feel?

Unit 1: All About God
Devotion: Have you heard the story of the prophet Jonah? He was a man who loved God. In fact, he was a prophet! A prophet is someone who is called by God to speak on His behalf to His people. Jonah was one of God’s prophets, and was often sent out with a message from the Lord. One day, God asked Jonah to go to Nineveh to tell the people who lived there that God wanted them to stop their wicked ways. They needed to repent (turn completely away from) their sins and go to God, or a terrible destruction would come upon them. Instead of doing what God asked him to, Jonah decided that he didn’t want to go to Nineveh and so he tried to run from God! He ran away to the sea and got on a boat, hoping God wouldn’t find him there. But God is everywhere, and He was right there with Jonah on the boat. He brought a great storm and Jonah realized it would only stop if he was thrown into the sea, so the sailors tossed him in. Then God brought a big fish to swallow Jonah and save him from drowning. Even though Jonah was probably scared, he learned a valuable lesson when he tried to run away: God is everywhere - we cannot hide from Him! Jonah knew he wasn’t alone in the belly of that fish. He prayed to God, and God heard his prayers. God caused the fish to spit Jonah out onto dry land, and Jonah set off to obey the Lord and deliver his message to Nineveh. God is everywhere! He is with us right now as we read together. He is with us when we go about our day and when we lie down to sleep at night. It is foolish to try to hide from God because He is everywhere and sees us all the time. God cares for us deeply and wants what is best for us. When we are tempted to sin, we should remember that God sees us and that nothing is done in secret. On the other hand, we can take great comfort in God’s special care for us and know that no matter where we are, even if we feel lonely or scared, God is with us.
Crafts/Activities: • Build a “big fish” out of couch cushions and blankets. Dress up as Jonah, the sailors, the Ninehvites, etc. and act out the story of Jonah. • Play hide and seek, talking afterward about how God always knew where they were because He is everywhere.

Unit 1: All About God
Where is God? God is everywhere! It can be hard to comprehend the idea that God is everywhere. There are some illustrations we can use to help us visualize God’s everywhere-ness (called “omnipresence”), but they are not the complete picture. God is not only present everywhere now but He is present everywhere in the past and future. He is present before time itself! Air is a simple way to think about God’s omnipresence. Air is like God in that it is all around us and we cannot see it. We breathe it in and we move around in it. Another example is atoms. Atoms are so small that they cannot be seen with the naked eye, and they make up all matter on earth. They are more “everywhere” than anything we know besides God!
