Arriving Soon: Summer Team
Takumi Six years ago when a team like this came, a middle school boy named Takumi came in response to the 4,000 flyers distributed in the neighbourhood. Now in university, Takumi`s still involved with our youth program, which is currently reading through The Purpose Driven Life . We want to make contact with more young people like Takumi this time.
Please Pray 1. English day camps this coming week, retreat on August 1&2, BBQ on August 3...lots of events to pray for. 2. Ruri, a woman in our neighbourhood, wants to study the Bible with us, but has debilitating anxiety attacks. Pray that we’ll have a chance to have input in her life. 3. Chiaki, a man from our English Club, will be joining our retreat on the weekend. We’re thankful for his interest. 4. Our colleagues, Don & Carol Love are on home assignment, so we’re involved with some additional Bible study groups. We need God’s direction as we meet with people.
From Edmonton to Tokyo...and Ishinomaki in the tsunami zone Six years ago Yumi and Jeff brought a team here to do English day camps and outreach to youth. They spent Christmas with us, which was a unique experience. Now Yumi and Jeff are back with another team, and we’ve got English day camps in Harumi and here in Shiohama, our neighbourhood. There are 20 kindergarten children and roughly 20 elementary children registered in each location. After the day camps, a retreat with our Praise Time believers and some seekers as well, and a BBQ for English day camp children and their families, they head up to Ishinomaki to work with our US colleagues who are doing basketball camps for children in local schools. We’re praying for new contacts to be made through these special events, and that they will lead to further ministry opportunities. We’re thankful for Beulah Alliance Church and their partnership with us in this way.
In September, Heather will finish her B.Ed at Ambrose, and Megan her Applied Music at Mohawk College. While working at Torchbearers Japan, Laura will do a degree with Moody Bible Institute
Some folks had trouble with the link to our blog (below) last time. It seems to be okay, but if you have trouble just Google “woonjapan” and it will appear.
And speaking of the blog, have a look at the people who came to Loves’ farewell, and our lunch after worship last Sunday. You’ll also see some unique features of our neighbourhood.
