American University Intramural Futsal Tournament Team Format Each team can play with a minimum of 4 players and a maximum of 5 players on the playing field (including the goalkeeper). For Co-Rec teams, the number of male players may be equal to, or less than, but not greater than one more the number of female players. Teams must maintain these numbers for the entire game. The maximum number of players on the team roster is 10 participants.
CoRec Team The number of male players must be equal to, or less then, but not greater than one more then the number of female players. 3 males & 2 females or 2 males and 3 females 2 males & 2 females
Team Captains Team captains are responsible for their team’s actions. Captains are also the only players permitted to talk with officials during the game. It is each team captain’s responsibility to ensure that all team members are listed on the team roster. A player may be added to a team’s IMLeagues roster before that team’s second regular season game. A participant must be listed on that team’s IMLeagues roster to be eligible to participate. Team captains are not only in charge of their team’s actions, but also the fans that are present.
Captain’s Meeting Before each game captain will be brought together with the officials to discuss rules, questions, and concerns. If the team captain is not present, another player must identify themselves as the interim team captain. The away team will begin the game with possession of the ball.
Game Format
Each game will consist of two (2) eighteen (18) minute halves. There is be a maximum of a three (3) minute halftime between the halves. There will be a running clock, except for the last (2) minutes of the second half and during overtime. Before that the clock will only be stopped for o Injuries, Ejections or for the Officials/Supervisor’s discretion. During the last (2) minutes of the second half and overtime, the clock shall stop for: o Injuries, Ejections or for the Officials/Supervisor’s discretion. o Balls out of bounds or out of play o Goals o All fouls
Overtime If a game is tied at the conclusion of regulation, there will be a single five (5) minute overtime Golden Goal period. (The team who scores the next goal will win) A coin flip will determine which team will possess the ball first. If the game remains tied at the conclusion of the overtime period, there will be a five (5) player shoot out. Shots will alternate between teams and shots will be taken at the penalty line (top of three-point arc). A coin flip will determine which team will shoot first. The team that scores the most goals at the conclusion of the shoot-out will win. If the game remains tied at the conclusion of the five (5) man shootout, there will be continuous alternating penalty shots. The first team to score an UNASWERED goal will win. Players have had to play during regulation to participate in the shoot-out and all of the players on a team’s roster must take a shot before they may go through their roster again in the same order. In CO-REC games, shooters must alternate between male/female and female/male. Even if not all male shooters have gone yet, a female shooter must follow (essentially making two separate shooting orders).
Mercy Rule If a team is ahead by the following goals at or inside the corresponding times, the game shall be over:
10 goals at or inside the second half. 7 goals at or inside the final seven (7) minutes. 5 goals at or inside the final two (2) minutes.
Substitutions There is no limit on the number of substitutions a team may take. Substitutions may only be made during stoppages in play.
Scoring A goal is scored when the ball crosses the goal line inside of a goal box. A point will be awarded to the opposing team of the goal regardless of who touched the ball last before the ball crossed the line (opposing player, defender or keeper). .
Boundaries
A ball will be considered out of play if the ENTIRETY of the ball crosses the end lines or side lines. When a ball crosses the sideline, a kick in will be awarded to the opposing team. The ball will be placed on the sideline at the point the ball went out of bounds. If the OPPOSING team last touched the ball before it crosses the end line, the ball will be awarded to the DEFENDING team’s keeper for a goal kick. If the DEFENDING team last touched the ball before it crosses the end line, the ball will be awarded to the OPPOSING team for a corner kick.
If the ball touches the ceiling, the ball will be awarded to the opposing team’s keeper.
Keeper Play The keeper may use their hands to handle a ball inside the goalie box (indicated with floor tape if the last player to contact the ball was an opposing player. A Keeper must field a ball with their feet if the ball is passed back or last contacted by a player on the same team. If the keeper handles a ball outside the goalie box with their hands or handles a pass back, the opposing team will be awarded a penalty kick. Keepers may not PUNT the ball. Keepers may clear the ball, but may only clear the ball by using their hands. Keepers may not pass or clear the ball past the center line.
Fouls The following infractions will result in a INDIRECT FREE KICK at mid court. They may also result in a yellow or red card. Holding an opponent Pushing an opponent Handling the ball, except the keeper in his penalty area. Fails to maintain a distance of five (5) feet on any kick in. (Repeated offenses = Yellow Card) Kicking or attempting to kick an opponent (Red Card) Tripping an opponent (Potential Yellow or Red) Jumping or throwing himself upon an opponent (Potential Yellow or Red) Charging an opponent in a violent or dangerous manner (Red Card) Striking or attempting to strike an opponent or spitting on an opponent (Red Card) Charging an opponent with the shoulder. (Yellow or Red Card) Sliding at the ball (Automatic Yellow) Sliding at a Player (Red Card)
Penalty Kicks Should a player commit any of the fouls above within their own team penalty area (indicated by the black three-point line), it will result in a penalty kick for the opposing team. (to be taken at the top of the black three-point line)
Yellow/Red Cards An official may issue yellow or red cards for players demonstrating unsportsmanlike conduct. This includes but is not limited to. o Using foul language o Verbally assaulting IM Staff o Baiting opponents or verbally assaulting opponents. o Making a mockery of the game, sport, or intramural program. o Threatening IM Staff or intramural participants 1. A player receiving two (2) yellow cards in a match will be ejected.
2. A player receiving one (1) red card will be ejected. 3. All ejected players must leave the playing area and Bender Arena within two (2) minutes. Failure to do so will result in a forfeit for their team. 4. If a player is ejected (from 2 yellows or a single red), their team must finish the game a player down. 5. The IM Staff reserves the right to end a Intramural contest in the event of excessive unsportsmanlike penalties resulting in multiple cards being assessed.
