Professional men’s tennis is coming to Birmingham as the U.S. Davis Cup Team will face Switzerland in the Davis Cup by BNP Paribas First Round taking place at Legacy Arena at the Birmingham-Jefferson Convention Complex February 3-5. If you are a tennis fan and looking for a unique opportunity to work behind the scenes at this incredible event we may have an opening for you on our Davis Cup Birmingham Ballperson Team. To receive consideration you must be available on all three match days Friday, February 3, Saturday, February 4, & Sunday, February 5. Matches are scheduled to start at 3pm on Friday (2 singles matches), 2pm on Saturday (1 doubles match) and 11am on Sunday (2 singles matches). Experience is a plus but not mandatory. 14 years of age or older is preferred (as of February 3, 2017). All interested ballpersons must participate in one of the open tryouts prior to selection to the Ballperson Team. The open tryouts will take place on Monday, January 2 from 10:30am – 12:30pm (check-in at 10:00am) and Wednesday, January 4 from 4:00pm – 6:00pm (check-in at 3:30pm) both taking place at Highland Park Tennis Center (3300 Highland Avenue South) in Birmingham, AL (rain dates January 3 & January 5 respectively). Interested ballpersons only need to participate in one of the above tryouts and should contact the Ballperson Coordinator in advance of the tryout to confirm attendance (contact information noted below). The 18 individuals that are ultimately selected will be notified soon after the tryouts conclude and should be prepared to participate in periodic practice sessions prior to the match days (schedule TBD). All ballpersons will receive a uniform consisting of a shirt, shorts, hat, shoes and socks. Food and beverages will be provided on the match days. All ballpersons must complete a Davis Cup Birmingham Ballperson Application which will be made available upon selection to the Ballperson Team. Davis Cup by BNP Paribas will bring tennis fans of all ages from around the world to Birmingham to experience the passion of Davis Cup competition.
