Anguilla: International Merchandise Trade Statistics Summary November 2006 OVERVIEW Imports for the month of November totalled EC$44.2 million, a 29.5% increase over the corresponding 2005 November value. This increase was fuelled by Consumption Goods which accounted for 55.8% of the total imports in November 2006. Total imports for the year were EC$431.9 million up to the end of November 2006, a 37.9% increase over the November 2005 corresponding figure. There were increases in imports for all the S.I.T.C1 categories during November 2006, with Consumption Goods experiencing the largest increase of 33.9% over its 2005 November figure. Primary and Capital Goods both showed an increase of 26.5% and 23.0% respectively. Primary and Capital Goods contributed 17.7% and 26.5% respectively to the total import bill for November 2006.

CONSUMPTION GOODS Consumption Goods accounted for EC$24.6 million of the total imports, with all the groups except for Food & Live Animals showing increases over their corresponding November 2005 figures. The Manufactured Goods by Material component contributed the largest value to the Consumption Goods category, with a total value of EC$11.6 million. This value accounted for 47.0% of Consumption Goods imports, which is a 113.6% increase over its 2005 corresponding figure. This increase can be attributable to increase imports in furnishing goods such as carpets and other floor coverings and table linens which are used in the various stages of the building process. Miscellaneous Manufactured Articles for the month of November 2006 contributed the second largest value in the Consumption Category, with a total value of EC$6.2 Million. This value accounted for 25.3% of Consumption Goods imports, which is a 24.5% increase over its corresponding figure.

PRIMARY GOODS Primary Goods accounted for EC$7.8 million of the total imports, a 26.5% increase over its 2005 figure. Mineral Fuels and Lubricants fuelled this increase and accounted for 42.1% of Primary Goods imports’ value, however this group recorded a decline in value of 9.9% when compared to its corresponding November 2005 figure. Crude Materials, Inedible, Except Fuels in this category have showed the largest increase. Crude Materials, Inedible, Except Fuels have accounted for EC$1.2 million which have more than doubled its 2005 November value with a 156.8% increase. This category was mainly fuelled by an increase in imports of Steel, Windows, Doors & their frame used in the construction of buildings. Chemicals & Related Products contributed EC$3.3 Million, 42.0% of Primary Goods, experiencing an increase of 60.9% over it corresponding November 2005 figure.

CAPITAL GOODS Capital Goods accounted for EC$11.7 million, 26.5% of the total import bill, with Machinery and Transport Equipment being the sole component in this category experiencing a 23.0% increase over it corresponding November 2005 figure.

EXPORTS Exports which include re-exports and domestic exports for the month of November were EC$1.4 million, a 76.9% decrease over its November 2005 value. Domestic export totaled EC$0.4 million in November 2006 as compared to EC$4.3 million in November 2005, a 90.0% decrease. Anguilla’s balance of trade for November 2006 was in deficit by EC$42.7 million, a deficit increase by 52.7% when compared with the same period in 2005.
