PROGRAM SUMMARY The Academy is based on the training objectives and regiments of the Barcelona Futbol Club. Their principles as being fundamental to developing well-rounded soccer players through the age of 14 are as follows: • Technical heavy training • Elimination of artificial competition • Increasing tactical awareness • Becoming more well-rounded In 2003, the York United Soccer academy was created with the goal to help players throughout York County improve their technical abilities. Every year the academy grew in numbers and quality and graduated technically sound, tactically aware players that formed the foundation of the most successful generation of boys’ and girls’ teams in club history. Today, this success has fueled the decision to create the Mason Dixon Academy. Players will be offered creative and challenging sessions designed to develop their skills in concert with their MDSL teams and raise the overall level throughout the club.
COST $130 covers all training sessions and academy shirt!
Sessions will be designed according to the goals outlined by both US Soccer and NSCAA to offer players a unique opportunity to develop individually on tactical skills necessary to be successful whether attacking, defending or in transition. The academy will offer players a competitive environment where players will be challenged to grow separate from their teams and be introduced to new ideas from a coach with a different voice.

TRAINING SESSION DETAILS Each session will progress from simple to complex focusing on one specific skill. The subject matter will start with a single technical skill, like receiving. The skill will be taught from simple to complex using fundamental movements and layering in second and third movements. Then the session is increased through the addition of game conditions – adding defenders. Then added player numbers to create “Rondos” – unequal numbers simulating game conditions. Finally, the session progresses to a game to observe how well the skill is applied under game conditions. This is the progressive style of session and by far the most widely used. The Academy will rely on this method initially but other styles will be used as well to keep the training sessions fresh and interesting.
