APPOINTMENT OF BOARD MEMBERS TO THE MIRAlESTE RECREATION AND PARK DISTRICT

RECOMMENDATION Appoint Keith Harter, Nancy Otto, and Carol Swets, each for a four-year term of office, to the Miraleste Recreation and Park District Board until December 2015. DISCUSSION The Miraleste Recreation and Park District was scheduled to conduct an election on November 8, 2011 to fill three seats on the Board with expiring terms of office. At the close of the nomination period, no candidates had filed for the open seats. Pursuant to Section 10515 of the Elections Code and Section 5780.1 of the Public Resources Code, the City Council as the supervising authority, shall appoint any qualified persons to fill the vacancies. In early October, Nancy Otto contacted staff to inform the City that incumbent board members Keith Harter, Nancy Otto, and Carol Swets were willing to continue serving on the Miraleste Recreation and Park District Board; therefore, staff recommends their appointment. MIRALESTE RECREATION AND PARK DISTRICT
Pursuant to Section 10515 of the Elections Code and Section 5780.1 of the Public Resources code, there being no candidates nominated for the three offices to be filled, and no petition having been filed, the election scheduled for
the 8th day of
November, 2011 shall not be held. The City Council shall, at a meeting held prior to November 28, 2011, appoint to each office of Director, any qualified persons. Such persons shall take office and serve exactly as if elected at a general district election.
