Unit 1 : PORTRAITS

This 8 week learning sequence I am learning how to: 

Develop an awareness of various portrait styles



Develop observational drawing and practical skills



Adapt and refine, evaluate and reflect upon work.

By the end of this learning sequence I will be able to: 

identify different styles and techniques used by portrait artists and appreciate some reasons for their creation



discuss, compare and contrast work, using art vocabulary



take creative risks, address problems, adapt and refine to realise intentions



use a range of materials and processes imaginatively and skilfully



produce a final piece of work.

What is Fauvism? Oil pastels/tone. Practise techniques in Work Journal. Develop A4 tonal image of icon in three colours.

Homework: Create Artist Research sheet on Seurat (2 weeks).

Fauvism 2 : Oil pastels. Complete self-portrait sample using oil pastel

Homework:

Impressionists 1 : Demo and practise pointillism using various media/tools. Compare with ‘dots’. Evaluate.

Homework: Create Artist Research sheet on Van Gogh (2 weeks).

Impressionists 2 : Demo and practise ‘brushstrokes’. Contrast and compare with pointillism.

Homework: Artist research

Complete all practise sheets. Personal exploration of media and techniques.

Homework: Research, compare and contrast two portrait artists (2 weeks).

Self- portrait. Select sections from practise sheets and combine to make collage self-portrait. Mount.

Homework:

Present and evaluate all work. Assessment.

Homework: Complete outstanding work.

Review and refine all work to date.
