ASSISTANT HEADTEACHER : STUDENT SERVICES & KS3 PROGRESS WANT TO WORK IN A LEADING EDGE SCHOOL? COME AND BE A PART OF OUR EXCITING FUTURE. Langtree School is one of the smallest secondary schools in Oxfordshire, with an 11-16 intake of 600 fantastic students. However, our small size is our greatest strength as we are a community in which students are known and valued as individuals and in which they can thrive with the close support of a dedicated team of subject specialist teachers. Many parents choose Langtree for this reason, and we remain heavily oversubscribed; in both 2015 and 2106 there were over 360 applications for 120 Year 7 places. The school is situated in an area of outstanding natural beauty in south Oxfordshire, between Oxford and Reading. Langtree is an 11 – 16 school and it is fair to stress to prospective candidates that there is no strategic intent at present to open a sixth form. The main reason for this is that we have always worked in close partnership with The Henley College as our sixth form provider of choice, which is able to offer over 50 A level courses as well as a wide range of vocational options. Consequently, the majority of our students do progress to Henley for post 16 education, although other very successful 11 – 18 schools in the locality attract a significant number of our students to their respective sixth forms. Our successes have been significant in recent years. In March 2009 we were designated as an outstanding school by Ofsted, and re-designated as a specialist school in the Performing Arts. In 2010, we were rated as outstanding in an Ofsted inspection for Art and Design, as well as being designated as a High Performing Specialist School. In 2012 we converted to academy status, as well as securing Leading Edge status in the same year. In our most recent inspection under the new framework of 2013, we were rated as a very good school with outstanding features. Behaviour at Langtree is rated as outstanding overall. Langtree has been awarded several national awards in recent years for value added progress and attainment at KS4, and GCSE outcomes have risen steadily over the past five years. In 2016, students at Langtree secured some of the best GCSE results the school has ever known, with 78% achieving the ‘Basics’ measure, 41% achieving the EBacc and 75% securing 5 or more GCSE passes at A*-C including English and Mathematics. Our Attainment 8 score was 56, and our Progress 8 measure was 0.37. Furthermore, 35% of all grades awarded were at A* or A. These successes are the result of wonderful students with a very positive attitude to learning, being supported by a dedicated and hardworking team of subject specialist teachers. We enjoy extremely positive relationships with our students, and we all share in our mission of ‘Putting Learning First’. Although we are very proud of the results our students achieve in their public examinations, success at GCSE is not the only reason for the pride we all have for our school. There is a rich, diverse offer of extracurricular activities, trips and visits at Langtree, both in the UK and abroad. Furthermore, our Creativity Days and Activities Week provide opportunities for our staff to plan creative approaches to learning in what we call the
‘outside classroom’. Langtree may be a small school, but it is a very dynamic and exciting place in which to learn and work. Furthermore, we put place a great emphasis on the care and well-being of our students, who are supported by an outstanding Pastoral Team. We hold a Gold Award for the provision for Young Carers, and students with identified special educational needs flourish in our supportive, inclusive Learning Support Base.. We are now entering yet another exciting phase of our school’s development. And this is where you could play a significant role. We are seeking to appoint, for September 2017, an Assistant Headteacher who will play a very important part in moving the school forward towards future successes. The successful candidate will work closely alongside our newly appointed Deputy Headteacher, supporting the Headteacher in planning for the future success of our school. This opportunity arises following the promotion of the Assistant Headteacher to a post of Deputy Headship, and presents us with an exciting opportunity to recruit a new leader to our school with the vision, drive and commitment to lead on future success. The Assistant Headteacher role will be accountable for the oversight of all student services, including safeguarding, attendance and well-being. The successful candidate will chair the weekly meetings of our Senior Pastoral Staff (SPS), which comprises of Head of Y7 and Transition, Head of Lower School KS3, Head of Upper School (KS4) and the SENCO. In addition, the post holder will have a particular focus on the progress of students at KS3, and the successful candidate will line manage the Head of Lower School, (among other curriculum reports), in order to monitor the academic progress of students in Years 7, 8 and 9. The specific accountabilities for this role are explained in the Job Description and Person Specification. However, it is also important to us that you will be an outstanding teacher, who can lead by example in the classroom: teaching and learning is at the heart of what we do and we are seeking an inspirational teacher and not simply an efficient manager. In return, the post holder will benefit from the full support of a talented team of staff and will have the privilege of teaching fantastic students. The future is very exciting at Langtree and this is a wonderful opportunity for a prospective senior leader, with an ambition for future promotion, to join a vibrant school community with high expectations of further success. If you feel that this post is of interest to you, and that you would be keen to join the staff at Langtree, then we would be delighted to receive your application. Applications for this post, by application form and letter, should be emailed to the Headteacher’s PA:
[email protected] on or before Monday 13th March 2017 no later than noon. Shortlisting will begin immediately and any applications received later than this deadline will not be considered.
