PITT HEAD COACH DEBBIE YOHMAN
ASSISTANT COACH MIKE ROWE
ASSISTANT COACH TERRY KARWOSKI
Pitt head coach Debbie Yohman is in her 28th season at the helm of the Panther gymnastics program.
Mike Rowe is now in his ninth year as an assistant coach for the Pitt gymnastics team. Rowe is in charge of the uneven bars squad and is the Panthers’ Recruiting Coordinator.
Terry Karwoski enters her fifth season as an assistant coach with the Panthers’ gymnastics program, after having served as head coach at Western Michigan University from 1997 to 2009.
His contributions to the program were recognized last season when he and assistant Terry Karwoski were named as Northeast Region Assistant Coach of the Year. It was the second time Rowe has shared the award, having been so honored in 2007. He has had two EAGL bar champions in Alix Croop (2009) and Andrea Arlotta (2007). In addition he was instrumental in now-graduated Panther Alyssa Adrian reaching the top of the podium as the 2013 EAGL All-Around Champion. He also coached Alyssa to an individual qualifier spot on bars at NCAA Regionals her sophomore year.
Terry is the primary vault and floor coach, and brings a wealth of experience to the Panthers coaching staff. As head coach of the WMU Broncos, Karwoski led the squad to two championship titles in 2006 as Mid-American Conference Regular Season and Tournament Champions. Her athletes were regular participants as individual qualifiers to the NCAA Central Regional Championships. Named MAC Coach of the Year in 2002 and 2006, Karwoski’s athletes also excelled in the classroom producing many NACGC/W Academic All-Americans each season and a perfect Academic Progress Rate (APR) score in 2008.
Originally from Michigan, Rowe has over 20 years of experience in gymnastics instruction and competitive coaching also in San Diego and New York City.
A native of Doylestown, Pa., Karwoski was able to earn a college scholarship to Northern Illinois University. She later transferred to Western Michigan University and was a member of the MidAmerican Conference Team in 1988.
In 2013, Yohman directed the Panthers to an NCAA Regional appearance and led senior Alyssa Adrian to the 2013 EAGL Championships all-around title. Additionally, as a team Pitt recorded two of its top 10 scores in school history in 2013, including their third-best mark of 196.175. In 2012, Pitt freshman Haley Bodenheimer was named the EAGL Rookie of the Year and scored a 39.325 in the all-around for fourth all-time in the Pitt record books. In 2011, Yohman coached senior Mallory Brewer to an EAGL Championship floor exercise title and in 2009 and 2010 led Alicia Talucci and Meaghan Biros, respectively, to EAGL Freshman of the Year honors. Yohman holds a 256-374-1 record while at Pitt and has earned the distinction of being named the 1991 ECAC Coach of the Year, the 1998 EAGL Tri-Coach of the Year and the 2002 Northeast Region Coach of the Year during her time with the Panthers.
