Dear Brea Baptist Church, We are officially in spring in the southern hemisphere. The days are lengthening, the flu season is over and the hot days of summer are on the way. We made it through the winter. Iquique/Alto Hospicio are cities that pride themselves on receiving NO rain. Well to everyone´s surprise IT RAINED. Some called it a poorly formed hurricane, most just said it was the weirdest thing they had ever seen. The roofs leaked and palm trees dripped mud. We had to move out of our house for 4 days. We are glad the windy days of spring are here. August and September were exciting months for our church. With the church members we have gone door to door in the streets radiating out from our location. We left invitations to visit our church in 3000 homes and have seen some resulting in prospects for our church. We have 70 people participating in the church with our high attendance just under 50. It would be nice if they would all come at the same time – no, no it wouldn´t, our building only holds 50 comfortable. With the numerical growth, we are also expanding our program. In September we added the Sunday Morning Service, but our Evening Service is still the larger of the two. We now have a Friday night youth program. Our children´s ministry is both growing and maturing; the teachers enjoyed a training session and are looking forward to another one in November. The people have committed to work, and to pray and to support their church. One of our men came and asked me to help him so that he could pray out loud in the service and to teach him to lead the singing. With the tithes and offerings the church has paid their rent and met their bills each month. We also have decided to support Juan Carlos, a new pastor that is going out of the Iquique church. It was a joy to participate in his ordination in August.

The Alto Hospicio Church is just 5 months old. God has been so good to us. It is such an exciting time in the church. Pray for us as we grow. I am working with 4 prospective families, pray for God´s victory in their lives. As spring turns to summer we will no doubt see a dip in attendance but come March we will doubtless need to be looking to change our location, pray for God´s direction in the future of the church. Furlough will come quickly in 2018, there is much preparation in the church to be done. Pray for the three men that I am mentoring to be lay preachers in my absence. Emma, Lily and Sophia
