War Eagle Lacrosse 2016 Code of Conduct Dear Parent/Guardian: Your child has expressed a desire to participate on the South Forsyth Lacrosse Team. It is important that you and your child understand the rules and regulations of the program and agree to abide by the rules established by the coaching staff for the benefit of those who participate as players, students, and representatives of their school community. These general training rules have been established as guidelines of behavior expected of all athletes on the 2016 Lacrosse Team. The rules and expectations detailed below are very important to the success of our lacrosse team this year. Please join us in supporting your player as a student-athlete, his or her team, and our athletic program by reviewing these rules as a family, signing and returning this form to your player’s coach before the first regularly scheduled contest.
Attendance/Eligibility 1. In order to be eligible to practice or participate in an athletic contest, student athletes: a) Must have a physical on file to participate. b) Must attend a minimum of 50% of the school day. c) Must attend school on the Friday before weekend events. d) The only exceptions to the above are: overlapping sports seasons, personal illness (an excused absence from school that day), illness or death in the family, religious observance, required court appearances, pre-approved college visits, approved school functions and school activities.
Practice and Games 1. All players are expected to be at every practice and game. a) Attendance will be monitored and will affect playing time. b) Legitimate excuses from practices will be limited to those listed in Section 1 (d) above. c) A player with three unexcused absences (this includes anything NOT listed in Section 1 (d)) from practice will be dismissed from the team.
d) A player who misses an athletic contest and does not have a legitimate excuse is suspended from the next athletic contest but must attend all practices. A second unexcused absence from an athletic contest would result in immediate dismissal from the team. e) If a player misses practice the day before a game for any reason, he may not start in the game the following day. f) If you are going to miss practice or a game for any reason, you must notify the head coach prior to practice/game. •

All legitimate excuses (as listed above) must be submitted to the coach (es) for approval whenever possible prior to missing the practice or the game. The Coaching Staff realizes that unusual situations arise whereas the athlete must miss practice. However, we do have an expectation of commitment on the part of our student athletes. It is important and expected that coaches and athletes openly communicate their expectations and desires in maintaining that commitment. 2. You are responsible for your own trash and are expected to help keep the fields AND locker room clean. (This includes South Forsyth practice and game fields and our opponents' fields.) 3. You should have all equipment on and be ready to start practice at the appointed time. Late arrival disrupts practice and is unfair to your teammates and coaches. The team will run for each minute an individual player is late. 4. You should plan on staying for the entire practice. If you must leave early, notify a coach before you leave, this will count towards missed practices and will affect playing time. 5. At games you are expected to show the highest standard of sportsmanship. Neither opponents nor officials will be taunted or harassed in any way. No one except the coach should say anything to the referees during a game. No “trash talking” to opponents on or off the field will be tolerated. Incidents of unsportsmanlike behavior could result in suspension from the team.
General Guidelines 1. Alcohol or drug use at any time or any place will not be tolerated and is grounds for immediate expulsion from the team. Any player using drugs will be expelled from the team. 2. Foul or abusive language, disobeying coaches, theft, dishonesty, unsafe behavior, and fighting are not acceptable at any time and will be disciplined. 3. You are expected to honor the game. This means that you will participate in good sportsmanship in lacrosse both on and off the field. Please remind supporters to show respect at our lacrosse games as well. 4. Transportation: All players are expected to ride the bus to and from all away games. Players may not leave the game with anyone other than their parent without a written note. 5. Your schoolwork takes priority. Plan your time so you can keep your commitment to your lacrosse team while doing your best at school. All players must earn a minimum of a C average to participate. If a player's average drops below a 70% in any class, he/she will be suspended from the team until her grades improve.
