WEEK 7 PREVIEW

SIOUX FALLS -– Welcome to Kirkeby-Over Stadium on the campus of Augustana University, as the Vikings take on the Southwest Minnesota State Mustangs today on Viking Days.

Both the Vikings and Mustangs enter today’s game with the same 2-4 overall record, and with identical 0-2 marks in NSIC South play, but both squads took slightly different paths to get those records. Each team shares a 28-20 win against Minot State and losses against St. Cloud State and Wayne State, but the Vikings beat Bemidji State and lost to MSU Moorhead, while the Mustangs lost at Bemidji State and won at MSU Moorhead. Augustana’s other loss came last week at No. 5 Minnesota State, while SMSU’s other loss came in a Week 5 loss at home to then No. 5 ranked Sioux Falls.

Augustana held Minnesota State to a season-low 388 yards of total offense last week in Mankato, but the Mavericks scored the first 18 points of the game, and even though the Vikings closed that gap to 11 points at halftime, they could not draw even, and eventually fell by a 42-21 score.

Next Up: Augustana remains in Sioux Falls for the second for four straight weeks on Saturday to complete their lone homestand of the season against Upper Iowa. The Vikings and Peacocks kickoff at 1 p.m. From there, the Vikings play at Sioux Falls, then host Concordia-St. Paul before closing the season at Winona State.

VIKING-TO-VIKING >>> C.J. HAM UPDATE

Former Augustana Viking, and current Minnesota Viking, C.J. Ham continues his journey from rookie minicamp longshot in 2016, to the practice squad and to the active roster. Things continued on the upswing for the Duluth, Minnesota native, as he made the team’s 53-man roster on Saturday, Sept. 2.

Ham earned his degree in physical education at Augustana before joning Minnesota, where spent most of his rookie season on the practice squad, but did earn a spot on the active roster for one game, although he did not play.

Now with the 2017 season in full swing, Ham continues to make his presence felt in Minnesota. He saw limited action, but did not record any stats in the Vikings season-opening 29-19 win over the New Orleans Saints, but scored his first-careern NFL touchdown in the Vikings Week 2 loss at Pittsburgh, and caught one pass for 12 yards in a win over Tampa Bay in Week 3.

After not posting any stats in a loss to Detroit in Week 4, Ham finished with one rush and one catch for 11 total yards in a Week 5 Monday night win in Chicago.

Ham and the Vikings host division rival Green Bay on Sunday at noon.
