Region 97 Applicant Commitment Agreement: As part of AYSO Region 97’s commitment to excellence, we require that all of our EXTRA coaches make the following commitment to the players, parents and AYSO Region 97. After reading, please check each section: I recognize the substantial time commitment and responsibilities associated with being selected as an EXTRA Coach and agree to commit the necessary time for practices and games during the season. This includes travel within Orange County. I recognize that AYSO Region 97 EXTRA teams represent both our Region and the Newport Beach/Costa Mesa community. Should I be selected as an EXTRA Coach, I commit to conduct myself positively at all times, incorporating the philosophies of the AYSO organization in order to ensure that my actions reflect positively on AYSO, the Region and our community. I understand that this is a 1 year commitment to consist of Fall Extra 2016 and Spring Select 2016 (assuming retention of enough players to constitute a full roster for spring select). I agree to hold my practice sessions at the days, times, and fields allotted to our team. I agree to adhere to all of AYSO Safe Haven policies and procedures. I will motivate and teach using the P.I.E. Program: Positive, Instructional, Encouraging. I agree to have only AYSO Region 97 registered and rostered players assigned to my team for all practices and games. It is understood that AYSO is a volunteer organization and I agree to obtain the assistance from those parent/guardian(s) on my team. It is understood that parent/guardian(s) of EXTRA and Select players take an active role in our activities, not only in the EXTRA and/or Select program, but also the AYSO Fall Recreation Program, which is the heart of the AYSO program. Each Extra Team is required to have at a minimum: a certified and approved coach at all practices and games, a certified and approved assistant coach, and two certified referee volunteers I agree to always remember this is a game for our children and while competitive, I strive to always remember the AYSO Philosophies I understand that I may not be asked back to coach by the Regional Commissioner for upcoming seasons. I also understand that being selected to coach this season, does not guarantee coaching further seasons. Each season all applicants will be considered irregardless of former coaches at that age division.
AYSO Region 97 Extra Coach Selection Policy and Process The following sets forth the Extra Coach Process, criteria and policy for AYSO R97: 1. Coach Selection Committee: Coaches will be selected by a committee of Region 97 Board of Directors members, that includes – • Regional Commissioner, Extra Director, Regional Coach Administrator, Referees and coaches • Additional at-large member(s) as selected by the Regional Commissioner 2. Coach Selection Process and Timetable: • Coach application completed and submitted no later than February 21st, 2016. • Coach selection to occur no later than March 5th, 2016 3. General Consideration Criteria • Coach must be currently in good standing with the Region. • Age-appropriate coach training required: Safe Haven certification completion & Concussion Training Basic referee training U12 coach training Intermediate training Advanced training • • • • •
Coaching experience – total years and Extra, All Star Team, etc... coaching experience. Total years serving as volunteer in Region 97. General email/computer communication capability. Coaching style that embodies PIE - positive, instructional and encouraging approach. Abides by the 6 AYSO Philosophies as indicated by actions on the field.
4. Selection of Teams • Observation of Fall 2015 and Spring 2016 Division games for all teams in respective age bracket should occur prior to tryouts. • Player selection will be determined by Selection Committee appointed by the Regional Commissioner. The Extra Coach will be part of this Committee. • After the committee makes their voted recommendations for 60% of the roster, the Extra Coach may select the remaining players to fill out their roster. • Only players who participate in at least one of the scheduled try-outs may be considered for final team selection.
