AYSO SECTION 1 EXTRA PROGRAM AYSO EXTRA in Section 1 requires an initial application and an annual returning region application from those regions wishing to continue with the EXTRA program. In evaluating a new or existing program a region’s Area Director, and Section Director’s responsibility is to make sure that the region is “healthy” enough to have an EXTRA program, and that the Standard Core program is not damaged by having an EXTRA Program. Here is what is used in determining whether or not to approve a new program, or reapprove and existing one:
Are all 7 required positions filled by different individuals, and do they have the appropriate certification and training? (see attached matrix) Is the EXTRA Program Coordinator adequately trained? Are there an adequate number of age-level certified coaches? Goal is for every team in the region to have both a team coach and assistant coach be as a minimum “age level” certified. Those coaches coaching U09/U10 who have U12 certification should also have taken either U10 coach course or the z-online U10 course. We multiply the number of teams in a division by 2, and compare to the number of coaches certified at each level.
Are there an adequate number of certified referees and at the appropriate badge level? Ideally every game would have 3 qualified referees, with the minimum standard for each referee and assistant referee as follows: U09-U12 – Regional U13-U14 – Intermediate U16/U19 – Advanced We multiply the number of teams in each division by 3 and divide by 2 (since there are two teams playing in a game) and compare to the number of referees certified (we only take into consideration highest certification)
Is the region’s “plan” on coach selection, and player selection in keeping with Section EXTRA Guidelines?
