HOW TO ENTER

Go online to www.lyaasports.org for easy and secure registration by midnight Friday, May 22nd. Or at Stumpy Creek Sports Complex the morning of the event at the snack shack, registration will be open starting at 9:00am and will close one hour before the start of each age event. Age verification: Participants must fall within their age group by June 30, otherwise they must move up into the next age group. Event age groups are for 7, 8, 9, 10, 11 and 12 years.

COMPETITION RULES

Each player may participate once in each event based on their age group. No metal spikes are allowed during any portion of the competition. All participates and parents are to abide by the Code of Sportsmanship. All decisions by the contest organizers will be final. Girls and Boys compete separately. Do your best and have fun!

Approximate Age Group Times: 7-9 year olds 10am -12pm / 10-12 year olds 12pm-2pm. Around the Horn Team event will start immediately after all the individual events are completed.

LAKE NORMAN SPORTS – BASEBALL/SOFTBALL SKILLS COMPETITION EVENT RULES Home Run Derby Rules (Hitting): 1. Balls and pitchers will be provided by the contest organizers. 2. Each batter will be allowed a total of 10 swings, the player with the most points after 10 swings will be declared the winner. st nd rd 3. 1 , 2 and 3 place will be awarded for the following age divisions: 7 year olds 8 year olds 9 year olds 10 year olds 11 year olds 12 year olds 4. Scoring system a. Five (5) pts will be awarded for each ball hit over the fence b. Three (3) pts will be awarded for each ball that hits the fence c. One (1) pt will be awarded for each ball that reaches the outfield grass d. For the 7 and 8 year olds, the ‘fence’ will be the edge of the outfield grass and the infield dirt will be considered the ‘outfield’ grass. 5. Tie-Breaker – The player hitting the most five point home runs will be declared the winner. This procedure will also be used for determining second place. If a tie still exists, the player with the most 3 pt hits will be declared the winner. If a tie still exists, a blind draw will be done to determine the winner. Road Runner Rules (Base running): 1. Each participant will run around the bases, starting at home plate and ending at home plate. They will be timed by the official timer and their time will be recorded. Each player will be given two opportunities to run the bases with the faster of their two times counting toward the contest. 2. The participant must make contact with each base and home plate or a 5 second penalty will be added to their time. st nd rd 3. 1 , 2 and 3 place will be awarded for the following age divisions: 7 year olds 8 year olds 9 year olds 10 year olds 11 year olds 12 year olds Golden Arm Rules (Throwing): All participants will throw a total of 10 balls from designated areas on the field. The length of the throw will be based upon the age grouping. Each participant throws five balls from each location on the field for this event. One warm up throw at each location will be provided. Age locations are set for the following: 7-8 year olds are from the pitching mound and second, 9-12 year olds are from second base and center field respectively. The player with the most points after 10 throws will be declared the winner. 1.

Points will be awarded for throws making contact with the target near home plate as follows: a. Five (5) points for a throw going through the target without bouncing b. Three (3) points for a throw going through the target that bounces first c. One (1) point for hitting the surface around the target with or without bouncing. Tie-Breaker – The player throwing through target with the most five point throws will be declared the winner. This procedure will also be used for determining second place. If a tie still exists, the player with the most 3 pts throws through the target will be declared the winner. Around The Horn (Team Event) Rules: 1. This is a timed competition consisting of five (5) players – Catcher, Third Baseman, Second Baseman, Short Stop and First Baseman. They will be timed at throwing the ball around the infield two times. Catcher to 3rd to 2nd to Short Stop to 1st back to Catcher. 2. Each team can only use five (5) players for this competition. 3. Teams can have a combination of ages within their two age groups. 4. No catching equipment is required for this event, other than all participants are to have fielding gloves. 5. No penalties will be assessed but the team must complete the throwing cycle to register a time. 6. Each team will be given two opportunities to complete the cycle with the faster of their two times counting toward the contest. The team with the best single time wins. Age groups: 9/10 and 11/12
