INDIANA UNIVERSITY SPORTS MEDICINE EMERGENCY ACTION PLAN ASSEMBLY HALL: COURT LEVEL Emergency Personnel: Certified athletic trainer(s) and athletic training student(s) are on site for practice and competition. Physician(s) are on site for competition; paramedic crew on site for competition. Emergency Communication: Cellular phone. There is no backup landline.

Emergency Equipment: An AED is on the Court Level at Entrance 4 (Northwest corner). Medical kit and first aid supplies are behind both home and visiting team benches during competition.

Venue Directions:

Assembly Hall is located off of East 17th Street and North Fee Lane. Emergency vehicles should enter the parking facilities off of North Fee Lane through Gate 13 to the North Circle Entrance of Assembly Hall. Emergency Team personnel will be at the entrance to direct EMS to emergency scene. .

Establish scene safety and immediate care of athlete Activation of Emergency Medical System (EMS) Emergency equipment retrieval Direction of EMS to scene

Activating the EMS System

Making the Call: • • •

Staff athletic trainer or designate will stay with athlete and provide emergency care Athletic training student or other team personnel will meet EMS at appropriate entrance and direct to scene Using a cellular phone, call 911

Providing Information: • • • • •

Name, address (location) of caller/emergency, Number of athletes, Nature of injury or condition(s) Current care being given or initiated by first responder Specific directions to locate the emergency scene Other information as requested by dispatcher o Leave callback number o Let dispatcher hang up first

Continued Care: • • •

Stabilize and monitor athlete as needed Notify the team physician and/or staff athletic trainer Designate someone to keep a record of events and vital information
