No strangers to NCAA postseason tournaments, the SUNYAC membership boasts 32 national championship teams and countless All-Americans. Presently, the conference members compete in 20 sports: nine for men and eleven for women. Last year, the SUNYAC crowned men’s team champions in baseball, basketball, cross-country, ice hockey, indoor & outdoor track, lacrosse, soccer, and swimming/diving. The league also awarded women’s championships in basketball, cross-country, field hockey, indoor & outdoor track, lacrosse, soccer, softball, swimming/diving, tennis, and volleyball.

Our learner-centered approach stresses quality education and experience inside and outside the classroom on our scenic, 690-acre lakeside campus. Students pursue bright futures through programs in our College of Liberal Arts and Sciences; School of Business; School of Communication, Media, and the Arts; and School of Education – as well as innovative interdisciplinary programs that cross traditional boundaries. Oswego State’s commitment to serving the well-being and readiness of its student-athletes extends from the classroom to the quality of athletic facilities. Laker Hall, which was built in 1968, serves as the Lakers’ primary indoor facility and is home to the Oswego State Athletic Department.

Head Coach Tracy Bruno Tracy Bruno enters her fourth season as Oswego State women’s basketball coach for the 2010-11 season. In 200910, Bruno led the Lakers to an overall record of 13-13 and a SUNYAC record of 10-8 to earn their ninth straight trip to the SUNYAC playoffs as the fifth seed. In her debut season, Bruno guided the Lakers to a 15-10 overall mark before falling in the quarterfinal round of the SUNYAC playoffs. The squad also qualified for the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Upstate Tournament, defeating highly regarded St. John Fisher College in the opening round before losing to SUNYAC rival Cortland in the semifinals.

Bruno came to Oswego State after having served as an assistant coach at NCAA Division II Hillsdale College, where she helped lead the Chargers to a 19-9 record in the 2006-07 season and an appearance in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference championship game. Bruno was responsible for recruiting at Hillsdale, assisting in all areas of on-court coaching in practices and games, coordinating travel, fundraising, and community service, and acquiring and editing game film. She supervised the team’s academic progress, and Hillsdale’s women’s basketball team had the 11th-highest cumulative grade-point average in Division II as recognized by the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association. Bruno has other coaching experience in women’s basketball and softball at Alpena Community College, as well as experience teaching physical education. Bruno is a 1994 graduate of Saginaw Valley State University where she was a five-year member of the women’s basketball team and a two-year captain. She was selected to all-conference, all-defensive, and all-academic teams throughout her playing career and was a member of a Saginaw Valley State team that played in the NCAA Division II Tournament and advanced to the Sweet 16. Bruno earned a bachelor’s degree in physical and health education, and a master’s degree in educational leadership from Eastern Michigan University. She has continued her education as she graduated from the NCAA Women’s Coaches Academy in 2009 and the NACWAA/HERS Institute for Administrative Advancement in 2007.

2009-2010 Season in Review Mid-Season Surge Puts Lakers In Playoffs

A five-game winning streak in mid-January helped the Oswego State women’s basketball team earn the fifth-seed in the SUNYAC Playoffs with a league record of 10-8 and an overall record of 13-13. Earlier in the season, the squad took second place in the Max Ziel Tournament, where junior Colleen McCready and sophomore Kayla Ryan were named to the all-tournament squad. Ryan was selected to the All-SUNYAC Second Team after leading the Lakers in scoring for the second straight season. McCready, who was named Honorable Mention All-SUNYAC led the Lakers in rebounding and blocked shots.
