No strangers to NCAA postseason tournaments, the SUNYAC membership boasts 32 national championship teams and countless All-Americans. Presently, the conference members compete in 20 sports: nine for men and eleven for women. Last year, the SUNYAC crowned men’s team champions in baseball, basketball, cross-country, ice hockey, indoor & outdoor track, lacrosse, soccer, and swimming/diving. The league also awarded women’s championships in basketball, cross-country, field hockey, indoor & outdoor track, lacrosse, soccer, softball, swimming/diving, tennis, and volleyball.

Our learner-centered approach stresses quality education and experience inside and outside the classroom on our scenic, 690-acre lakeside campus. Students pursue bright futures through programs in our College of Liberal Arts and Sciences; School of Business; School of Communication, Media, and the Arts; and School of Education – as well as innovative interdisciplinary programs that cross traditional boundaries. Oswego State’s commitment to serving the well-being and readiness of its student-athletes extends from the classroom to the quality of athletic facilities. Laker Hall, which was built in 1968, serves as the Lakers’ primary indoor facility and is home to the Oswego State Athletic Department.

Head Coach Adam Stockwell Adam Stockwell starts his second season at the helm of the Oswego State men’s basketball program after guiding the Lakers to a 13-13 overall record and qualifying for the SUNYAC Playoffs in his first season. Stockwell became the 15th coach in the 86-year history of the Lakers’ program in 2009.

A native of Ellisburg, NY, Stockwell guided the Clarkson Golden Knights into postseason play from 2006-2009, including the program’s first-ever NCAA Division III Championship appearance during the 2007-08 season after capturing the Liberty League tournament title. That same season, he went on to garner conference Coach of the Year accolades. In 2006-07, Stockwell guided Clarkson to a 14-12 mark and an Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Upstate postseason tournament appearance. In 2008-09, the Golden Knights went 15-11 and reached the Liberty League semifinals for the second straight season as the number four seed, losing to NCAA tournament “Sweet 16” participant St. Lawrence. Prior to Clarkson, Stockwell served as an assistant coach at Canisius College from 1999-2004, where his duties included recruiting, scouting, and on-floor coaching. He helped lead the Golden Griffins to a 20-11 record during the 2000-01 season, only the sixth 20-win season in the school’s 100-year history. He also helped develop four players who moved on to play professionally. He coached at Christian Brothers Academy in Syracuse for one season (1997-98) before beginning his collegiate coaching career at Penn State-Behrend in Erie, PA (199899), where he helped the Lions to a 21-7 record and the ECAC South Championship. Stockwell, who graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Economics from LeMoyne College in 1996, was a three-year starter for the Dolphins from 1993-96. He led the team to a 24-6 record and an appearance in the NCAA Division II Championship tournament. At LeMoyne, Stockwell ranks ninth in career scoring (1,458), sixth in steals (144), second in 3-point field goal percentage (.420) and fourth in 3-point field goals made (170). Stockwell graduated from Belleville-Henderson High School in 1992 as a 2,000-point scorer. Along with his father, James, the Stockwells are the only father-son combination in New York State high school basketball history to both score over 2,000 points.

2009-2010 Season in Review Late-Season Surge Puts Lakers In Playoffs

The men’s basketball team started the season strong by winning the Max Ziel Tournament as freshman forward Hayden Ward was named to the all-tournament team and sophomore forward Chad Burridge was selected as the tournament MVP. The Lakers won three of their final four conference games to earn the seventh seed in the SUNYAC Playoffs before finishing the year at 13-13 overall. Burridge led Oswego State in scoring, rebounding, and recorded 54 blocks to bring his career total to 139, which ranks second in program history. He went on to be named to the All-SUNYAC Second Team.
