God Told Jeremiah What to Write My name is Jeremiah. I am a prophet for the most high God. One day God told me to get a scroll and write about the punishment He was planning to send on the people of Judah. God wanted them to hear and turn back to Him so that He could forgive them. I called Baruch (BAY rook), a scribe, to come and write down what God had told me. When Baruch finished, I told him to go to the temple and read the words to the people. I thought maybe they would ask God to forgive them. Baruch did as I asked. A man named Michaiah (migh KAY yuh) heard the words and went to tell some of the king’s officials. When they heard about the scroll, they asked Baruch to read the scroll to them. Baruch did as they asked. When the king heard about the scroll, he sent Jehudi (jih HYOO digh) to get it and to read it aloud. As Jehudi read the words to the king, the king began cutting the scroll and throwing the pieces into the fireplace. The king was angry and wanted to kill Baruch and me, but God kept us safe. God told me to write down everything He had told me before, as well as a message to King Jehoiakim (jih HOY uh kim). God said He was going to punish the king and all his children and his officers for the wrong they had done. Even though the king had tried to destroy the words of God, God made sure they would be around forever. Jeremiah 36
