Did You Know?

date: Feb. 2, 2014

This resource is designed to allow your family to have time in God’s Word BEFORE your children attend church. Because God’s plan is for parents to be the primary spiritual nurturers of their children’s faith, we want YOU to be the one to introduce this part of The Big God Story to them. For additional support in spiritual parenting and to learn more about creating transforming environments in your home, be sure to pick up HomeFront: A Spiritual Parenting Resource from your church or download at HomeFrontMag.com. You can also access the HomeFront app for your iPhone, iPad, or Android device.

• God told the people not to take any of the gold, silver, or other property they found in Jericho, but instead to give it to God by putting it in the treasury.

Your child’s most important influence is that of his family. Tell your child stories of family history, especially those that involve a legacy of faith for your child to model.

• A man named Achan did not heed God’s warnings and in his greed took some of the gold and silver from Jericho.

Older Kids

• God was angered because of Achan’s disobedience. Achan’s sin stained the community; when the soldiers made an attempt to invade Ai, they were chased out, and several were killed in battle.

Though your child may not seem to express interest in spending time with family, most older children still enjoy it. Be sure to plan regular family time activities, and continue to model appropriate behavior for your child.

• This battle showed the Israelites, once again, that they were helpless without God’s power. After they decided to obey and trust God, God would give them victory over Ai. Remember Verse for the environment of MODELING

Teachable Moments

Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. If you really know me, you will know my Father as well. From now on, you do know him and have seen him.” John 14:6–7

After reading Scripture, discuss the following together: • What do you think it might have been like to be in the Israelite army? • How did God use His power to help the Israelites? • In your own life, how have you seen God’s power?
