ELEMENTARY KIDS & FAMILIES date: February 1, 2015
This resource is designed to allow your family to have time in God’s Word BEFORE your children attend church. Because God’s plan is for parents to be the primary spiritual nurturers of their children’s faith, we want YOU to be the one to introduce this part of The Big God Story to them. For additional support in spiritual parenting and to learn more about creating transforming environments in your home, be sure to pick up HomeFront: A Spiritual Parenting Resource from your church, or download it at HomeFrontMag.com. You can also access the HomeFront app on your iPhone, iPad, or Android device.
2.9 God Rescues
Younger Kids
Did You Know?
Your younger child may often exhibit confusing emotional extremes. Remember that these emotional outbursts are more common during times of stress, and try to remain calm, even when you yourself become frustrated.
• When Babylon defeated the nation of Judah and destroyed Jerusalem, the conquerors took captive Hebrew men of nobility to serve the Babylonians. • Part of the Babylonians’ strategy as a world power was to assimilate any potential leaders from the next generation of Hebrews into the Babylonian culture. One way they did this was by changing all Hebrew names to Babylonian names. • Daniel and his friends may have spoken like Babylonians, but the men’s hearts did not serve their gods. Daniel and his friends chose to serve only the one true God, even in the face of death.

After reading Daniel 3, discuss the following together: • Why didn’t Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego worship the gold statue? • Why weren’t they afraid to go into the fiery furnace? • How did King Nebuchadnezzar respond when the men came out of the furnace?
