There’s no place like HOME. But, where is Medium HOME for you? Is HOME where you were born? Where you were raised? Where you’ve lived most of your life? What if Fabric 5 you’ve moved around a lot? Where is Medium HOME? Do you go back there often? Usually, HOME is the place that holds memories for us: family gatherings, meals and traditions.

We are very fortunate. For wherever HOME is, we can go back if we want to. Some are not so fortunate. For reasons beyond their control, some cannot go HOME. How sad… Exile is a recurring theme in the Old Testament, beginning with Adam and Eve, forced to leave Eden. Abraham is exiled from his family to a land promised to him by God. Jacob and Joseph were exiled for a time, and Moses spent most of his life in exile. Even when we are far from HOME, God wants us to “sing the Lord’s song in a foreign land.” Psalm 137:4. The Oxford Annotated Bible, with the Apocrypha, Expanded Edition, 1977. God encourages us to make the most of our new homes “Build houses and live in them; plant gardens and eat their produce...seek the welfare of the city where I have sent you into exile, and pray to the Lord on its behalf, for in its welfare you will find your welfare.” Jeremiah 29:5-7. Even though we may be far from HOME, Jesus makes his HOME with us. “And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, full of grace and truth. John 1:14 When we welcome Jesus into our lives, we find ourselves at HOME as children in His household. Maybe we need to change the way we think about HOME and shift our focus toward being at home with Jesus, wherever we are. Wherever HE is is HOME.

Instructions 1. Stitch a (Fabric 2) 1-1/2” square to the top of the Fabric 1 1-1/2” square. Press to the outside. The unfinished unit should measure 1-1/2”x2-1/2”. 2. Stitch a (Fabric 2) 2-1/2” rectangle to the left side of the unit. Press to the outside. The unfinished unit should measure 2-1/2”x21/2”. 3. Stitch a (Fabric 4) 1-1/2”x2-1/2” rectangle to the bottom of the unit. Press to the outside. The unfinished unit should measure 2-1/2”x3-1/2”. 4. Stitch a (Fabric 4) 1-1/2”x3-1/2” rectangle to the right side of the unit. Press to the outside. The unfinished unit should measure 3-1/2”x3-1/2”. 5. Stitch a (Fabric 3) 1-1/2”x3-1/2” rectangle to the top of the unit. Press to the outside. The unfinished unit should measure 3-1/2”x4-1/2”. 6. Stitch a (Fabric 3) 1-1/2”x4-1/2” rectangle to the left side of the unit. Press to the outside. The unfinished unit should measure 4-1/2”x4-1/2”. 7. Stitch a (Fabric 5) 1-1/2”x4-1/2” rectangle to the bottom of the unit. Press to the outside. The unfinished unit should measure 4-1/2”x5-1/2”. 8. Stitch a (Fabric 5) 1-1/2”x5-1/2” rectangle to the right side of the unit. Press to the outside. The unfinished block should measure 5-1/2”x5 -1/2”.

Block 20: Home Sweet Home A Log Cabin with a roaring fire is warm, cozy, “homey.” What better block could there be to represent our heavenly home. As the final block of the Have A Little Faith quilt, I wanted quilters to easily recognize the Log Cabin as the symbol of our heavenly home. The space below is provided for your personal reflection.
