About the BMSC Developmental Program
In-house, U5-U8 Co-ed by age All practices and games will be local – Reedsville, Orwigsburg, Cressona Rules are posted on website (www.bmsc.org) under Our Programs > Developmental Program Key Program Concepts: o Specific soccer skill goals set for each age level o Practices are designed for introducing/developing soccer skills o Structured games are formed to apply learned skills and understand rules of the game o All players play as close to 50% minimum in each game o All players rotate through all positions on field to continue to learn the responsibilities of a position o All games are non-competitive and scorekeeping is discouraged KEEP IT FUN!!!
What the Players Will Need to Bring
Soccer Ball o U5, U6, U7: Size 3 o U8: Size 4 Soccer Socks Shin Guards are a MUST – worn UNDERNEATH soccer socks A Drink (no glass containers) Soccer Cleats OPTIONAL – no METAL SPIKES UNIFORM – the Club will provide a Game Shirt & 1 pair of matching soccer socks to be worn on game days

Challenger British Soccer Camp – July 27-31 o OPTIONAL at your own cost Practices can begin Aug 3 (Monday after Challenger Camp) Games begin weekend of Sep 12/13 (weekend after Labor Day) o approx 6 weeks of practices before games begin Youth Soccer Night (Team Banner Night) o TBD o Thoughts? 1|P a ge

End of Season Tournament Oct 17 (Saturday after Columbus Day) o approx 5 weeks for games o We'll probably have weekday and weekend games to try to get to 8 games or so o Soccer Fun Night for Developmental - TENTATIVE Friday night before games begin, which would be Sept 11. Thoughts?? [this event might not happen – not a strong response in favor]

Other Game Day Rules of Note
Coaches on field o rules state no coaches on field beginning U7, but we typically allow for all age groups Referees o The on-the-field coaches often act as referees Spectator Viewing o Coaches and players on one side; spectators on the other [This is important based on new laws regarding volunteers and background checks. Only cleared coaches are allowed on the bench during games AND practices.] Four Goal Lead Rule (U7 & U8) o Losing coach may add a player at their discretion (inform other coach) o Winning team encouraged to restrict their kids (see rules for suggestions)
What the Coaches Will Need to Supply
BACKGROUND CHECKS REQUIRED for ALL HEAD & ASSISTANT COACHES o EPYSA Risk Management (yearly registration): http://www.epysa.org/membership/risk_management/ o Act 153 of 2014 Clearances: http://KeepKidsSafe.PA.gov or http://www.epysa.org/membership/pa_child_protection_laws__clearances/ Child Abuse History Clearance (DHS) Criminal History Record Check (PSP) FBI Clearance (if not a continuous resident of PA for last 10 years) Beginning July 25, the DHS and PSP checks will be free for volunteers o Forward all required clearances to Director of Coaching, Frank Armenise: [email protected] CONCUSSION TRAINING (HEADS UP) – only need to do it once o http://www.cdc.gov/headsup/youthsports/index.html [Copies of clearances can be emailed or mailed to: BMSC – Attn Director of Coaching PO Box 78 Orwigsburg, PA 17961]

Coaches Clinics o Challenger Coaches Clinic Saturday, Aug 1, 10am, Eagle Complex [location to be confirmed] GREAT clinic for these age levels o Club-Wide Travel Practices – observe what our Travel coaches do July 30, Aug 13 & 27, 6:30p Challenger Way: http://www.thechallengerway.com/ EPYSA, US Youth Soccer, YouTube Formal Coaching Licenses/Courses Steal ideas from other coaches DEVELOPMENTAL CLINICS/TRAINING via ASD – 1x per week o This is being considered by the Board – any thoughts?? o Will likely forego U8 tourney money to offset costs [not likely to be financially feasible this year] SOCCER BAGS o If you need one, please contact Director of Coaching, Frank Armenise: [email protected] Practices o should be limited to 1hr o Proper Warm-up – light physical activity followed by a period of stretching, then practice! Complaints/Suggestions from Last Season??
Practicing in rain/poor weather o Generally it is the Coach's discretion o BMSC does not own any fields – some field owners (BMSD) may close the field at their discretion o If lightning is spotted – remove EVERYONE from the field IMMEDIATELY o Opinion is that kids do not mind light rain o Coach is responsible for notifying team of any cancellations Game Schedules o We will do our best to get schedule out as soon as possible o Goal is to schedule 8 games prior to the end-of-the-year tournament
