US Youth Soccer changes
New for this Fall Age o Moved registration age date from 8/1 up to 1/1, effectively making every age group 7 months younger than last year o Computation: End of Soccer Year (2017) – Birth Year = Youngest "U" division your child can play Soccer season still goes from Fall to Summer of following year o BMSC Board decided to group by Grade instead of Age closely mimics the old age cutoffs keeps classmates together but moves some kids up 2 U divisions instead of 1 many clubs are doing the same Competition o Wants U8 and younger to play 4v4 with NO goalies o This year will be a transition/hybrid year
About the BMSC Developmental Program
In-house Program, 1st Grade/U8 and younger Co-ed by Grade All practices and games will be local – Reedsville, Cressona, Orwigsburg Game Day Rules o Old Rules WILL BE MODIFIED to reflect US Youth Soccer changes o Rules will eventually be posted on our website (www.bmsc.org) under Our Programs > Developmental Program o 1st Grade 6v6 including Goalie (same as last year's U7) o K and Pre-K 4v4 NO Goalie (same as last year's U6) Key Program Concepts: o Practices are designed for introducing/developing soccer skills o Structured games are formed to apply learned skills and understand rules of the game o All players play as close to 50% minimum in each game o All players rotate through all positions on field to continue to learn the responsibilities of a position o All games are non-competitive and scorekeeping is discouraged KEEP IT FUN!!! 1|Page

What the Players Will Need to Bring
Soccer Ball – Size 3 for all Developmental Soccer Socks Shin Guards are a MUST – worn UNDERNEATH soccer socks A Drink (no glass containers) Soccer Cleats OPTIONAL – NO METAL SPIKES, NO Baseball/Softball cleats UNIFORM – the Club will provide a Game Shirt & 1 pair of matching soccer socks to be worn on game days 1st Grade Goal Keeper Gloves – the Club should have Keeper Gloves for your use.
Developmental Season Schedule (TENTATIVE)
Practices can begin Aug 1 (Monday after Challenger Camp) Games begin weekend of Sep 10/11 (weekend after Labor Day) o Approx 6 weeks of practices before games begin Team Photos o Sep 18 and 24 at Kimmel's Church o Actual dates and times TBD Youth Soccer Night (Team Banner Night) o Weds, Sept 28, 2016, 6p o Thoughts? End-of-Season Tournament Oct 15/16 (weekend after Columbus Day) o approx 5 weeks for games o We'll probably have weekday and weekend games to try to get to 8 games or so o Game schedules – will be available late August
Playing in Inclement Weather
Rain/Poor weather o Generally it is the Coach's discretion o BMSC does not own any fields – some field owners may close the field at their discretion Lightning/Thunder o If lightning is spotted – remove EVERYONE from the field IMMEDIATELY and seek shelter o EPYSA has lightning safety guidelines: http://www.epysa.org/resources/lightning_safety Generally kids do not mind light rain, but keep in mind their ages and make sure it is still fun Coach is responsible for notifying parents of any cancellations

Referees o The on-the-field coaches often act as referees Spectator Viewing o Coaches and players on one side; spectators on the other o This is important based on new laws regarding volunteers and background checks. Only cleared coaches are allowed on the bench during games AND practices Four Goal Lead Rule (1st Grade) o Losing coach may add a player at their discretion (inform other coach) o Winning team encouraged to restrict their kids (see rules for suggestions)

Once games begin, games will override practices if there are conflicts PRACTICES o should be limited to 1hr for K and Pre-K, 1.5hrs for 1st Grade – strongly encourage limiting practices to 1 hr in length for all Developmental age groups o 2 practices per week is adequate o Once established, the practice schedule should remain the same up until the beginning of games. o Proper Warm-up – light physical activity followed by a period of stretching, then practice! o As a coach at this level, ALWAYS KEEP IT FUN!!!

Things to Consider for this season o Practice Structure DEVELOPMENTAL CLINICS/TRAINING via Challenger – 1x per week This is being considered by the Board – any thoughts?? Will likely forego First Grade tourney money to offset costs If paid training is not utilized, First Grade teams are permitted to participate in one U8 tournament at the coach's request and Board approval o Teams/Uniforms o Sponsorships The Club is accepting sponsorships for the Developmental Teams If interested, please contact Club Treasurer, Debbie Reilley Complaints/Suggestions from Last Season??
