Bond Construction Updates June - September 1, 2017 – Getting Started While much of the architectural and engineering work has been behind the scenes, construction around the district will begin to be much more noticeable. Recent key events include:
June 29 – district closed on $44,015,000 of general obligation bonds to be used for construction projects. July – land surveying work begins at Package 2 sites (see more info below). July 5 – Board of Education awards paving repair contract for initial work at Goddard High School. July 18 – Board of Education awards A/C chiller tear out and replacement contract for Goddard High School. July 27 – Board of Education awards hardware replacement contract (both materials and installation) to upgrade all classroom doors with the exception of new spaces to be added in later construction or rooms that already have the intruder hardware installed. August 21 – Board of Education awards HVAC contract to improve air quality and efficiency over the existing systems in Eisenhower High School, Eisenhower Middle School and Apollo Elementary School.
Also on August 21, the Board of Education completed the process of selecting a Construction Manager at Risk (CMAR). Hutton Construction was selected as CMAR in a competitive process that included four total firms. Hutton will begin working with the district and Schaefer Johnson Cox Frey (SJCF) Architecture to review the design and construction drawings, develop a budget and ultimately bid the work. In the meantime our SJCF architects – Matt Hamm and Carmen Phillips – have been working on initial drawings and putting together the outline of a construction schedule. Work has been divided into several groups or “packages”. The process begins with design work and completion of drawings, then bidding the work, and finally construction. For Packages 2-5 the entire process could take 15 to 26 months depending on the scope of the work. Much of the Package 1 work will be completed by the end of this school year although the final parking lot work may wait until the other construction projects are completed.
