“Celebrating Centuries in Deaf Education: Honor the Past – Inspire the Future!” Homecoming 2017 Celebration & Alumni Reunion September 19-23 This year marks the 200th year of Deaf Education in America. It is also the 55 th anniversary of Minot State University’s Deaf Education Program. We invite you to celebrate with us!
SPECIAL GUEST SPEAKER DR. I. KING JORDAN
Dr. Jordan made history in 1988 when, after a historic protest, he was named president of Gallaudet, the first deaf president since the university was established in 1864. His appointment led to him becoming a spokesperson for the rights and abilities of people who are deaf and people who have other disabilities. Dr. Jordan serves on six corporate or nonprofit boards and continues to actively challenge the American public to examine their attitudes toward people with disabilities and to open their minds, hearts, and workplaces to them. Schedule of Events ND Council for Exceptional Children Fall Conference Location: Sleep Inn Minot Date: 9/21/2017 At this day long conference Julie Weatherly, JD will present “Developing Legally Defensible IEPs”. This conference requires registration separate from the Deaf Education celebration. Participants attending the CEC conference and the Symposium are eligible for 1 graduate credit of continuing education. Registration due by August 31st at: http://community.cec.sped.org/nd/home

Dr. Karen L. Anderson has been an audiologist for 35 years, specializing in educational audiology, identification and intervention of infants with hearing loss, serving students who are hard of hearing, and classroom acoustics. She has been the Director of Supporting Success for Children with Hearing Loss since its inception in 2011. www.successforkidswithhearingloss.com

Deaf/Hard of Hearing Education Symposium 8 am-5 pm Location: Aleshire Theatre, Minot State University Date: 9/22/2017 Guest address by Dr. Jordan and Keynote sessions with Dr. Anderson will provide professional development for TODs and others working with deaf/hard of hearing children.
