Borough of Hightstown, Tree Planting Program Summary for 2013 to June 2014 Below please see a map of the Borough of Hightstown’s tree planting for the last 18 months. We have chosen species of trees that will complement the surroundings, and be harmonious with the existing trees and plantings. The trees are hand selected from a local nursery and all are of the 2.5-3 inch caliper. All of the trees were graciously donated by local residents, commission members and our local Girl Scout troop. All of the trees were planted by the Environmental Commission, with the assistance of Public Works. Our three year maintenance plant includes: Gator bags on each tree for the first 12 months (excluding the coldest winter months), regular mulching to discourage weed growth, regular trimming to promote shape and healthy growth and a deep root fertilization at the beginning of the third year.
