Boys & Girls Soccer State Tournament Pairings Announced A field of 295 boys teams and 259 girls teams were paired this morning for the 21st Annual IHSAA Boys and Girls Soccer State Tournaments. The girls sectionals – 32 in Class 2A and 16 in Class A – will run Oct. 6‐11. Regionals will be played Wednesday, Oct. 15 and Saturday, Oct. 18 with Class 2A matches in a two‐round, Wednesday‐Saturday format. The Class A contests differ as a one‐match affair played that Saturday. Semi‐states in both classes will be played Saturday, Oct. 25 in a two‐round format with the winners advancing to the state championship matches on Saturday, Nov. 1. The Class 2A, No. 1 Carmel girls team will take on No. 12 Guerin Catholic in Sectional 17 at Zionsville while Class A top‐ranked Lawrenceburg will begin its post‐season against No. 11 Oldenburg Academy in Sectional 45 at Rising Sun. Class 2A No. 2 Avon will begin defense of last year’s state championship against Brownsburg in Sectional 18 at Danville, while last year’s Class A state champ West Lafayette, currently ranked No. 13, will host Northwestern in Sectional 39. Boys sectional action at 64 sites – 32 in each class – also will be played Monday, Oct. 6 through Saturday, Oct. 11. Sixteen regional sites – eight in each class – will host two rounds each on Thursday, Oct. 16, and Saturday, Oct. 18. Semi‐states will be played at four sites on Saturday, Oct. 25 in a two‐round format with the survivors squaring off in the state championship matches on Saturday, Nov. 1 in Indianapolis. In Class 2A, the top‐ranked Evansville Memorial boys team will meet cross‐town rival Evansville Bosse in Sectional 32 while Class A, No. 1 and defending state champion Guerin Catholic will host Indianapolis Broad Ripple in Sectional 47. Ninth‐ranked Crown Point, last year’s Class 2A state champion, will go up against Sectional 3 host Merrillville. Notables About the Draw To conduct the random drawing for the state tournament, the IHSAA places ping‐pong balls representing each school in a given sectional into a lottery‐style air mix machine. A motorized fan in the bottom of the machine blows the balls around the inside of the transparent container and air then forces each ball up through a tube in random order. For example, the first ball retrieved from the machine will be the visiting team in game one with the second ball representing the home team in game one. The third ball to come out is the visitor in game two and the fourth ball the home team in game two. That same method is followed through all sectionals, regionals and semi‐states to determine every team’s placement in the bracket. Boys & Girls Soccer State Tournament Pairings Announced A field of 295 boys teams and 259 girls teams were paired this morning for the 21st Annual IHSAA Boys and Girls Soccer State Tournaments. The girls sectionals – 32 in Class 2A and 16 in Class A – will run Oct. 6‐11. Regionals will be played Wednesday, Oct. 15 and Saturday, Oct. 18 with Class 2A matches in a two‐round, Wednesday‐Saturday format. The Class A contests differ as a one‐match affair played that Saturday. Semi‐states in both classes will be played Saturday, Oct. 25 in a two‐round format with the winners advancing to the state championship matches on Saturday, Nov. 1. The Class 2A, No. 1 Carmel girls team will take on No. 12 Guerin Catholic in Sectional 17 at Zionsville while Class A top‐ranked Lawrenceburg will begin its post‐season against No. 11 Oldenburg Academy in Sectional 45 at Rising Sun. Class 2A No. 2 Avon will begin defense of last year’s state championship against Brownsburg in Sectional 18 at Danville, while last year’s Class A state champ West Lafayette, currently ranked No. 13, will host Northwestern in Sectional 39. Boys sectional action at 64 sites – 32 in each class – also will be played Monday, Oct. 6 through Saturday, Oct. 11. Sixteen regional sites – eight in each class – will host two rounds each on Thursday, Oct. 16, and Saturday, Oct. 18. Semi‐states will be played at four sites on Saturday, Oct. 25 in a two‐round format with the survivors squaring off in the state championship matches on Saturday, Nov. 1 in Indianapolis. In Class 2A, the top‐ranked Evansville Memorial boys team will meet cross‐town rival Evansville Bosse in Sectional 32 while Class A, No. 1 and defending state champion Guerin Catholic will host Indianapolis Broad Ripple in Sectional 47. Ninth‐ranked Crown Point, last year’s Class 2A state champion, will go up against Sectional 3 host Merrillville. Notables About the Draw To conduct the random drawing for the state tournament, the IHSAA places ping‐pong balls representing each school in a given sectional into a lottery‐style air mix machine. A motorized fan in the bottom of the machine blows the balls around the inside of the transparent container and air then forces each ball up through a tube in random order. For example, the first ball retrieved from the machine will be the visiting team in game one with the second ball representing the home team in game one. The third ball to come out is the visitor in game two and the fourth ball the home team in game two. That same method is followed through all sectionals, regionals and semi‐states to determine every team’s placement in the bracket.
