Introducing
Brittany Lewis
2016/2017 North Park Global Intern with....
Hello! My name is Brittany Lewis, and from September 2016 to April 2017 I will be serving in an internship with Athletes in Action. Athletes in Action is a division within the ministry of Power to Change Canada. Our goal is to mobilize athletes and fans of sports by using the universal language of sport to communicate the most powerful message of all: God’s passionate love for his children through his son, Jesus Christ. Today there are 60 staff in Canada and a worldwide team of 600 in more than 60 countries. As a campus intern, my ministry would take the form of being a mentor in the lives of varsity student-athletes both on and off the field. I am excited to announce that I have been placed at the University of Alberta in Edmonton! I cannot wait to move across the country, fully surrender myself to God and discover how He plans on using me to fulfill His will. I have been attending North Park since I moved to London back in 2001. Through my childhood, teen years and now into my young adulthood were spent here. Walking through the doors here at North Park has always felt like home. The pastors, leaders, mentors, families and friends at the church have all played a large role in shaping my faith and I am so thankful for this wonderful loving community. Having been a competitive swimmer for 12 years, high performance sport has always been a fundamental part of my life. Growing up I lived and breathed swimming; however, in my second year of university I broke my leg and was removed from activity entirely for a few months. This injury turned my world upside down. I came to the realization that I had subconsciously been suffering a huge identity crisis. I knew myself as ‘Brittany the swimmer’ but if I couldn’t swim anymore then who was I? I am forever grateful that through this injury God introduced me to this wonderful community who has been an unwavering source of support, strength and love ever since. Joining Athletes in Action was the beginning of a life transformation. They helped me to realize my worth and value outside of being a swimmer and showed me that victory in sport is worth nothing compared to knowing Jesus Christ. AIA
taught me how two fundamental components of my life – faith and sport did not have to exist in isolation. I have since learned how to glorify God through swimming. I am no longer enslaved to sport and can compete in freedom, knowing that God’s love for me is not dependent on my performance. I feel so passionate about ministering to CIS athletes as I can truly relate to the lifestyle and have personally struggled with many of the same problems. I no longer define myself based on sport or anything tangible this world can offer but instead I now place my identity in Jesus. Through camps, conferences, mission trips, and leading small groups, I have built a personal and intimate relationship with Jesus. I’m eager to help students discover that relationship for themselves through this internship! Please pray for me as I embark on this internship. Pray for the students who will be deepening their spiritual lives, and for those who will be discovering spiritual life for the first time. Pray for wisdom and patience for the AIA leaders as they seek to make God known on their campuses. Pray for students that are passionate about changing the world by helping others discover Jesus. If you have questions, comments, or need to be in touch with me for any other reason, please feel free! I can be reached at
