From Your Pastor’s Heart

One of the most beautiful invitations to mankind to pursue the study of science is found in Job 12:7-10 “But now ask the beasts, and they will teach you; and the birds of the air, and they will tell you; or speak to the earth, and it will teach you; and the fish of the sea will explain to you. Who among these do not know that the hand of the Lord has done this, in whose hand is the life of every living thing, and the breath of all mankind?” Paul plainly states in his letter to the Romans that the existence of God is so clearly revealed through the creation that mankind is without excuse in ignoring Him (Romans 1:19-20). The power of God can even be seen in one of our summertime favorites, the watermelon. It takes about 5,000 watermelon seeds to make a pound. However, when one of these lightweight seeds is planted in the ground, it goes to work. It produces roots that anchor in the soil and a stem that will push aside the most stubborn of dirt clods in order to emerge. Surprisingly, watermelon plants thrive best in loose, sandy soil. Somehow, the roots of the plant extract enough water from this sandy soil to produce several juicy melons on one vine. Each of the watermelons on that vine will have grown to 200,000 times the size of that one seed! And every melon contains hundreds of seeds. From a small black seed planted in pale, sandy earth comes forth a green vine that can produce a melon with green stripes on the outside, and red, sweet fruit on the inside. The seed has no sweetness. The soil has no taste. Yet from the two of them emerges a sweet and juicy watermelon. Only a divine Architect can design such a result! I am glad to be your pastor!

ANNOUNCEMENTS **Due to a shortage of food at the Harvest Regional food bank, the Emerson Food Pantry is required to purchase some of its supplies at full retail value this month. This has put a financial strain on the pantry funds. Therefore, we will be receiving an offering after this morning’s service to help alleviate this shortfall. **Our closing program for VBS will be tonight with fellowship to follow in the fellowship hall. We need volunteers to bring sandwiches, drinks and desserts. **Two weeks from today, our new ABS director, Bro. Chris Lucy, will be sharing his vision for the student ministry and preaching the morning message.
