Photoshop - Broncos Clipping Mask

DIRECTIONS: Follow along with this step-by-step instruction sheet to complete the project.

STEP ❏

Create a folder on your USB

HOW? Right-click to create “New Folder” COLESTOCK > Photoshop Projects 



Launch Photoshop Elements

Double-click desktop shortcut, or from the Start Menu



Launch the Photo Editor

Click PHOTO EDITOR



Choose Expert Editing Mode



Make Layers Window Visible

Click EXPERT Mode

Click F11 or click LAYERS icon

Open Broncos Background Image

Download image from Skills page on class website; Save to USB FILE menu, OPEN Navigate to image on USB; Click OPEN



Rename layer

In Layers window, double-click the layer you just created and rename it Broncos Background



Turn the Image blue

Click the New Adjustment Layer icon in the Layers palette Choose HUE/SATURATION In the Adjustments palette, ● Click COLORIZE ● Set HUE slider to 220 ● Set SATURATION to 45 ● Set LIGHTNESS to -5 Close box by clicking on small X



Choose QUICK SELECTION TOOL

On Toolbar, choose Quick Selection Tool icon



Switch to MAGIC WAND TOOL

At bottom of screen, switch from Quick Selection to Magic Wand



Select and copy just the Bronco from the image

SHIFT+CLICK on all parts until just the Bronco is selected CTRL+C to copy

Create new layer for the Bronco

LAYER menu, NEW, LAYER; name layer Bronco 



Paste the Bronco onto the new layer

With the ‘Bronco’ layer selected, CTRL+V to paste



Double-check your layers

Make sure your layers look like this!

Open Peyton Passing Image

Download image from Skills page on class website; save to USB FILE menu, OPEN Navigate to image on USB; Click OPEN



Copy Peyton Passing Image onto Bronco Background

With Bronco Background tab selected at top, drag Peyton Passing Image from the Photo Bin to the Bronco Background tab; this will automatically create a new layer.



Rename layer

Double-click the layer you just created and rename it Peyton Passing



Create Clipping Mask

With ‘Peyton Passing’ layer selected, LAYER menu, CREATE CLIPPING MASK (CTRL+G)



Arrange/Resize ‘Peyton Passing’ layer

With just the Peyton Passing image selected, choose Move Tool from the Toolbar. Place Peyton Passing image where you want. (If you wish, resize by dragging on the corners. Click on green checkmark to apply transformation.)



Double-check your layers

Make sure your layers look like this!



Save Image

FILE menu, SAVE FOR WEB; PNG24, SAVE Name image file broncos_clipping_mask.png; SAVE



Save Project

FILE menu, SAVE; broncos_clipping_mask.psd; SAVE
