BUBBLE SOCCER RULES

Eligibility: To participate in GGC Intramural Sports, you must be a current student in good academic standing. Any team found playing with ineligible participants will forfeit the games in which ineligible participants played. Teams playing with ineligible participants may also be dropped from the league at the discretion of the Coordinator of Recreation. Each player must meet the following conditions to sign-in: 1. Present a valid GGC Claw Card before EACH contest to be eligible to participate OR 2. Have a registered profile on IMLeagues.com/GGC and be part of the team’s roster. Even if a participant is already registered with IMLeagues, he or she must still present a valid GGC Claw Card.

NO EXCEPTIONS! I. Equipment 1.1 All players must wear athletic shoes. 1.2 Equipment which may be dangerous to another player (such as hats and bandannas) is not allowed. The supervisor/official will determine if an article is dangerous and will ask the player to remove the article. If the player refuses, he/she will be asked to leave. 1.3 Knee braces made of hard, unyielding substances covered on both sides with all edges overlapped and any other hard substances covered with at least a ½ inch of slow recovery rubber or similar material will be allowed. 1.4 Jewelry, rubber bands, chains, rings, or earrings may not be worn. Medical alert bracelets may be taped to the body. 1.5 Players must use the bubbles correctly or risk being ejected from the game. 1.5.1 Players must always wear straps correctly. 1.5.2 Players may not stick their head out of the top of the bubble. 1.5.3 Players must listen to all instructions given by the officials and/or intramural staff. 1.6 Players may not take the bubble off unless it is during a dead ball or timeout. II. Players & Substitutions 2.1 A regulation team consists of 3 players. A team must have a minimum of 2 players to start the game. 2.2 If a player has been disqualified (red card or 2 yellow cards), he/she cannot be replaced in that game. 2.3 A team must notify the referee on all substitutions. No player may come onto the field without permission of the referee. 2.4 The following conditions apply to substitutions: 2.4.1 Either team may substitute during a time out. 2.4.2 Either team may substitute in between quarters. 2.4.3 Either team may substitute if a player has been injured.

BUBBLE SOCCER RULES 2.4.4 Either team may substitute if a player has been cautioned (yellow card). The cautioned player must leave the field and can return at the next substitution opportunity. 2.5 A team may not play with less than 2 players once the game has started. III. The Game 3.1 Each quarter will be 7 minutes in length with a continuous running clock. Intermissions will be 3 minutes. The clock will be stopped at the referee’s discretion for injuries and excessive delays. No injury time will be added at the end of the game. When the clock expires the game is over. 3.2 One time out per half is permitted. 3.3 The ball will be placed in the center of the court and teams will line-up 5 yards back. When the whistle is blown, teams may run to the ball for possession. This will occur at the start of the game, after each score, and at the start of each quarter. 3.3.1 The players who are not involved in the kickoff will remain on their own half and at least 10 yards away until the ball is kicked. 3.5 All kickoffs are direct. 3.6 A goal may be scored during play, directly from a direct free kick, penalty kick, corner kick, goal kick, or drop ball. A goal may not be scored directly from an indirect free kick or throw-in. To score a goal the ball must completely cross the goal line. After the goal the ball is returned to the center of the field for another kickoff. 3.7 Teams will change ends at half time. The team that did not kick off the first will kick off the second half. 3.8 The ball is out of play when it completely crosses the sidelines or end lines. The referee will blow his/her whistle to signify when the ball is out of play. 3.9 The referee blowing his/her whistle warrants a dead ball, even if inadvertent. 3.10 To restart play, the following methods are used: 3.10.1 Kick-in: When the ball crosses the sidelines possession is given to the team the referees deemed did not touch the ball last. The team with possession will kick the ball in play. 3.10.2 Goal kick: When the ball crosses an end line last touched by the offense. 3.10.2.1 Goal kicks will be taken from the end line. 3.10.3 Corner kick: When the ball crosses an end line last touched by the defense. 3.10.4 Direct/Indirect Free Kick: When an on-field infraction has occurred. 3.10.5 Drop Ball 3.11 Ball in play: The ball is still in play if it stays inbounds after rebounding off the goal, referee, or corner flags and remains in the field of play. 3.12 A drop ball will be called when play is stopped due to an injured player or an inadvertent whistle. A drop ball must touch the ground before either team makes contact with the ball to return it to play. 3.13 Mercy Rule: If a team is ahead by 10 or more goals at halftime or any point thereafter, the game will immediately end. A 5 goal lead within the last 5 minutes will end the game. If a team is ahead by one less goal than the mercy rule and is deemed to be stalling, the officials have the option of ending the game. 3.14 During the regular season tie games will stand. During playoffs ties will be broken using the following rules: 3.14.1 Two 3 minute consecutive sudden death overtime periods will be played. The first team to score is the winner. If neither team scores during the first overtime, play is stopped and teams will switch ends of the field. Possession will change as if starting a new half. There will be no intermission

If neither team scores in the second overtime, a 2 minute overtime period will follow. 3.14.2 Each 2 minute overtime period will only allow 2 players per team to be on the field. This format will continue until a winner has been determined. IV. Rules Clarifications 4.1 Fans and coaches must stay off the field at all times. Fans and coaches may never stand on the field. Continued violations of this rule will result in a yellow card for the captain. If they continue to violate this rule the captain will be ejected. Another captain will be appointed and the preceding rules will be applied. 4.2 There is no offside. V. Fouls & Misconduct 5.1 Kicking and Tripping 5.1.1 A player shall not intentionally attempt to kick an opponent. 5.1.2 A player shall not intentionally trip an opponent. Penalty: Indirect Free Kick 5.3 Illegal charge 5.3.1 A player shall not intentionally charge an opponent from behind. 5.4 Unnecessary Roughness 5.4.1 In the opinion of the official, all malicious hits to an opponent will be prohibited. If unnecessary roughness is committed it is in the official’s discretion whether to issue a yellow card, red card, or no card at all depending on the severity of the infraction. 5.4.2 Players may not leave their feet when hitting an opponent (no diving). Penalty: Indirect Free Kick 5.8 Misconduct 5.8.1 A player or coach shall be cautioned for: Persistently infringing upon the rules of the game or acting in an unsportsmanlike manner and/or objecting by word of mouth or action to the decisions given by an official. 5.8.2 A player or coach will be disqualified for: Persistent misconduct or a second caution and/or exhibiting violent conduct or action to the decisions given by an official. 5.8.3 Yellow Cards – Any player warranting a yellow card (rough play, verbal abuse, physical abuse, etc.) will be required to leave the field of play until the next substitution opportunity. 5.8.4 A player will be ejected if he/she receives a second yellow card, is guilty of serious foul play or violent conduct, uses offensive/insulting language directed towards an opponent, or is deemed to deserve the ejection at the official’s judgment. 5.8.5 Two ejected players on the same team will result in a default of the game. VI. Sportsmanship 6.1 Each team will be given a sportsmanship rating at the end of each game. The sportsmanship rating will operate on a 0-4 point scale. Playoff eligibility will be determined by the average sportsmanship rating throughout the regular season. Any team with an average sportsmanship rating lower than 3.0 will not be allowed to participate in the playoffs. 6.1.1 Description of Sportsmanship Ratings:

BUBBLE SOCCER RULES A. Excellent Sportsmanship (4 points) – Players cooperate fully with the officials about rule interpretations and calls. The captain also has full control of his/her teammates. Team members and spectators were respectful of opponents and officials and encouraged each other’s efforts. At no time was this team disrespectful towards participants or officials. B. Acceptable Sportsmanship (3 points) – Team members and spectators are respectful of opponents and officials except for one or two minor incidents which may or may not merit a warning from the game officials or supervisor. C. Sportsmanship Needs Improvement (2 points) – Team members or spectators are disrespectful of opponents or officials on a number of occasions which may or may not warrant a penalty. Captain exhibits minor control over his/herself and his/her teammates and spectators. Teams receiving multiple warning or having a player ejected for an unsportsmanlike act should receive no higher than a C rating. D. Unacceptable Sportsmanship (1 point) – Team constantly comments to the officials and/or opposing teams from the field and/or sidelines. The team captain exhibits little or no control over teammates or himself/herself. Majority of individuals on this team are disrespectful of opponents or officials on a regular basis. Teams receiving multiple D ratings within one season may be subject to dismissal. F. Season Ending Rating (0 points) – Team is completely uncooperative and out of control before, during, or after intramural sports contest(s). Team captain exhibits poor control over self, the team, and/or the spectators. Team has multiple ejections or blatant unsportsmanlike conduct that endangered participants, fans, officials, or supervisors. Team fails to cooperate/comply with intramural sports administrative staff/College officials while performing their duties; falsely represents or withholds any requested information. Teams which receive an F rating will be immediately dismissed from the league.
