BUILDER JANUARY 2018
Dear Friends, We have braved the excitement and joy of the holiday season. We have welcomed the presence of God known in Jesus Christ into our lives anew. And as the new calendar year begins, we think about what we want to do with this precious year of life. What are our growing edges? With whom are we seeking connection? Where are we in the arc of our own life story? This is often a season of resolutions. We think of all the things we wish we did and pledge to begin them this year. In our church calendar this is a time of reading the stories of Jesus’ early ministry, as his disciples are called to join him and they begin to learn what this ministry is about in real life. The disciples had high goals of being perfected spiritual leaders. They were also incredibly human and struggled with living out those goals day to day. Once upon a time Christmas changed the world. It began a process of bringing to wholeness all of creation. We are invited to be a part of what God is doing the world today. We are called to be a part of bringing justice, mercy, and healing to those children of God around us. What piece are we crafted to play in this great project? Let us pray and study and worship and love together in this season as we listen for the call of Jesus to us here and now. Blessings, Rev. Amy Beth Pastor

Cambrian Park Church - Safe Park Mission Last April we at Cambrian Park started a mission to offer a Safe Park situation to homeless in our area. There were strict guidelines that we adhered to and over the first month we only had one family that could qualify. We have had this same family for a while now with the idea of helping them get out of the motor home into something more permanent or into a newer motor home that would qualify for a motor home park. Motor home parks only take vehicles that are 2003 or newer. The motor home our guest has is a 1988 model so she could not find a place to keep it and feel safe. Our Cambrian Park’s Safe Park, has offered at least a safe place to sleep without fear of harassment from neighbors, random people or police. We want to continue to help our guest move forward and one way would be money to help with a newer motor home or help entering into an apartment by funding the upfront costs of that. Our guest has a few part time jobs so she says she would be able to pay the rent once she has a place. If you would be willing to help in any way whether it’s a donation, a loan or maybe know of a resource for a newer motor home this family would be so grateful. We have gotten to know them this year and want to support at least this one family in getting off the homeless rolls. We do have an account set up in our budget for this purpose. If you need any more information please contact Melody Ackerman, Betty Dickey or Rev. Amy Beth. Thank you.
Scouting News by Ted Kraynick, Scouting Ministry Coordinator Our Cub Pack 374 was visited by Santa Claus at their December Pack Meeting. As part of Esther’s Outreach, the Joint Youth Group (JYG) sponsored 105 students at the Nativity Schools‐Sacred Heat and Our Lady of Grace. Nativity students are encouraged to deepen their relationship with God as they become women and men for others. The schools focus on academic intervention for the underserved‐‐break the cycle of poverty through education!
JOY in Giving

Coffee Hour Update Because most of us enjoy this time after worship to visit and check in with each other, whether we drink coffee or not, we could use a few extra hands to keep it going. The same people have rotated the job of cleaning up for a long time, and some would like to take a break from doing it for a while! If anyone would be willing to take a turn helping to clean up once a month, please talk to me. I will continue to make and set up coffee each Sunday as long as there are people to help clean up. Also it would be great if others would contribute to our snacks by either signing up or contacting me. This has been falling on the same people way too often! And don’t forget that by serving Fair Trade Coffee, which we have been doing for almost 15 years, we continue to support small farmers in our country and around the world! A Big Thank you to all those who are helping! Melody Ross
