IT Support at Bushey Meads A Brief Summary The IT support team comprises two IT technicians, led by the IT Manager. The Work Placement role is a new position. The IT team use a web-based helpdesk to manage support requests and record solutions; the helpdesk is the primary method used by staff to contact the support team. The school runs a VMWare virtualised server infrastructure, with three hosts connected to an iSCSI SAN. Active Directory is used to provide directory services, with Group Policy to configure servers and clients. The school has recently started using Google Apps for mail and file sharing, in addition to Microsoft Sharepoint services for staff collaboration. The school’s management information systems is Capita SIMS. HP Procurve network equipment is used to provide wired connectivity, with a mix of HP and Buffalo antonymous access points to provide wireless coverage. There are over 600 desktops/laptops on site, most of which are running Windows 7. Two terminal servers support 20 thin client terminals. MDT2010 and WDS are used to deploy desktop operating systems. Active Directory Software Installation is used to deploy most applications. WSUS is used to patch Microsoft software. The team support a variety of peripheral devices, including 70 network printers, network scanners, visualisers, whiteboards, access control and various D&T devices. Bushey Meads recently obtained Academy status in partnership with Little Reddings Primary School. The team provide IT support to both schools within the Bushey St James Trust.
