Dear Mr. North: The purpose of this letter is to seek the Governor's nomination of the following Census tracts in Butler County as Opportunity Zones, pursuant to the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017Public Law 115-97 (the Act). We recognize that the State of Kansas will have a finite number of qualified Census tracts it is able to nominate. As such, we have listed for nomination the Census tracts below in order of highest priority to lowest priority. For each, we identify whether the tract qualifies on its own under Section 45D of the Internal Revenue Code or whether it uses the Act's contiguity rules to quality. Finally, we have identified in each tract what additional resources the County and others have employed in recent years to develop and redevelop projects within that tract. We respectfully request that the Governor forward our requested Census tracts for nomination to the U.S. Secretary of Treasury not later than March 20, 2018, the deadline imposed under the Act.
