The Great American Eclipse Program
When It’s Not the Avon Lady The Chesterfield County Police Department recently issued a warning to residents living in the north western part of the county is cautioning that solicitors have been combing the Woodlake, Deer Run, Hampton Park and Brandermill neighborhoods. Police are asking residents to be on alert for people who should not be in your neighborhood. Corporal Scott Gordon reports “a lot of them are coming through and they’re not taking no for an answer or simply they shouldn’t be there,” commented Gordon. Residents are warned to be alert and not let their guard down. A person who goes door-to-door in residential areas for the purpose of selling any goods, wares, merchandise, subscriptions or services must obtain a

Sat., July 29, 3 p.m. at Harbour Pointe Clubhouse “An open discussion for Brandermill residents“
Sunday, August 13, 2 p.m. Harbour Pointe Clubhouse What causes a solar eclipse? What does it look like? What can we observe during an eclipse? How often do they occur? How can we observe a solar eclipse safely? What is the difference between a partial eclipse and a total eclipse? Find the answers to these questions at The Great American Eclipse Program. For the first time in 99 years, a total eclipse will cross the entire continental United States, hence the name “The Great American Eclipse”. Dr. Henry Nebel, Professor of Physics at the University of Richmond and Brandermill resident, will discuss the importance of the total eclipse of the sun on August 21st. Dr. Nebel will be our guide to understand, prepare for and view this beautiful celestial event. In Richmond the eclipse will be partial only. Some slides will be shown indicating what the partial phases will look like. Safe viewing will be discussed, and viewing glasses will be passed out. If it is a sunny day, we will go outside and view the sun through safe viewing glasses.

Congratulations to Mel’s Bingo Winners! One of the most anticipated events at the Brandermill pools each summer is Mel’s Bingo. Every Wednesday afternoon in July, kids gather when Dr. Mel Burton of Shallowford Landing shows up to call the numbers. With $5 prizes at stake, this is serious gaming. We all appreciate the time that Dr. Burton has given to add to the summer fun at the Brandermill pools!

Criminal Justice Services and submitted with the application. The Chesterfield Police Department issues the 30-day or one-year permits after the applicant passes a background check and is fingerprinted. A homeowner is certainly within their rights to ask to see a solicitor’s permit. If they do not produce a valid permit, simply ask them to leave and shut the door. The only type of solicitor that would not be required to have a permit is a non-profit organization or religious group. Brandermill has signs posted throughout the property stating ours is a “no-soliciting” neighborhood and residents can refer to this when approached. If solicitors do not heed your request to show permits or to leave your property, call the police non-emergency number, 748-1251. BCA grants permits for door-to-door solicitations solely to civic or school groups for fund-raising and they are required to have the permit with them at all times. Usually a quick and polite “I’m not interested” and the closing of the door will suffice. Even if the charity or organization is interesting to you, it’s not work the potential risk of giving any information to an unknown person or group.
