This paragraph should clearly describe the overall project. Specific elements of the project can be further described in the following questions of this application form. “San Francisco’s Non-potable Water Program allows buildings to incorporate decentralized, onsite water systems within buildings and districts. Collecting and treating non-traditional sources of water, such as rainwater, stormwater, blackwater, and graywater, can reduce the use of potable water up

to 50% for residential buildings and 95% for commercial buildings. The San Francisco program is designed to streamline the process for the private sector and created a new water management paradigm within the city. This program, codified through a city ordinance, incorporates management measures to protect public health and is the first of its kind in the United States. Recently, the program became the first program in the United States, and one of the first in the world, to mandate onsite water reuse in all new developments greater than 250,000 square feet. This ground breaking step ensures that all new developments in San Francisco are built with water conservation as a top priority.”

Since there is no universal standard protocol or measure for quantifying urban climate change risk reduction, various measures may be used including: area of land/asset protected, number of people safeguarded, monetary value of losses avoided, temperature reduced, cubic meters of water managed.
