CAA WEEKLY AWARDS PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Jarrell Brantley • College of Charleston So., F, 6-7, 245 - Columbia, S.C./Notre Dame Prep Brantley averaged 14.5 points and 9.0 rebounds as College of Charleston went 2-0 with wins over Navy (70-64) and Davidson (76-61). The sophomore forward recorded a double-double with 16 points and a team-high 11 rebounds as the Cougars rallied past Davidson and had 13 points and seven boards vs. Navy. For the week Brantley shot 47.4% from the floor and was 4-of-8 from 3-point range.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Brian Dawkins • Elon R-Jr., F, 6-8, 240 - Jacksonville, Fla./Bishop Kenny Dawkins averaged 17.0 points and 5.0 rebounds in Elon’s 1-1 week, which included an over me victory over FIU (84-81) and a narrow loss at Georgetown (77-74). The redshirt junior forward scored 12 of his team-high 17 points in the second half and also grabbed seven rebounds at Georgetown and tallied 17 points in just 21 minutes against FIU, including a key bucket late in over me. For the week, Dawkins shot 70% (14-20) from the floor and made 4-of-6 from three-point range.

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK: Eli Pemberton • Hofstra Fr., G, 6-4, 190 - Middletown, Conn./Cheshire Academy Pemberton averaged 17.0 points and 8.0 rebounds as Hofstra extended its winning streak to four with road victories at Columbia (88-86) and Florida Atlan c (88-80). The freshman guard posted his first career double-double with a team-high 22 points and 10 boards at FAU and contributed 12 points and six rebounds at Columbia. For the week, Pemberton shot 58.8% (10-17) from the floor, including 5-of-9 from three-point range.

CAA LEADS NATION IN ROAD VICTORIES: CAA teams have won 16 true road games and are 7-5 on neutral courts this season. With 16 road wins, the CAA is ed with the Ohio Valley (12 teams) for the most of any Division I conference through games of Dec. 6. Four of the road setbacks have come against na onally ranked teams. Last season, CAA teams recorded 21 victories in true road games, which was the 3rd-most among all conferences.

HOFSTRA FACES #6 KENTUCKY ON SUNDAY: Hofstra will face #6 Kentucky on Sunday a ernoon at the Barclays Center as part of the Brooklyn Hoops Classic. The 3 p.m. contest will be na onally televised on ESPN. That game headlines a rela vely light 13-game schedule around the conference this week as many schools enter final exams. CAA RANKED 13TH IN LATEST RPI REPORT: The CAA is ranked 13th out of the na on’s 32 Division I conferences according to the latest RPI report released by Collegiate Basketball News (rpira ngs.com) through games of Dec. 7. Two CAA teams are ranked in the top 100 with UNCW at #14 and College of Charleston at #56. SOLID START FOR CAA TEAMS: It’s been a solid start to the season in CAA men’s basketball as the league’s 10 teams have combined for a 47-38 record. UNCW is off to a 7-1 start a er defea ng Western Michigan and Pfeiffer last week to extend its winning streak to four. College of Charleston (6-3) rallied past Davidson last Sunday for its third straight win, while Delaware and Drexel have captured their last two contests. Hofstra (6-4) had won four in a row before falling 81-75 to St. Bonaventure on Tuesday. Seven of the league’s 10 teams have .500 or be er overall records. UNCW PICKS UP VOTE IN AP TOP 25 POLL: UNCW picked up a vote in this week’s Associated Press Top 25 poll. It’s the second year in a row that the Seahawks have received votes in the poll. UNCW is off to a 7-1 start and has won four in a row. HOFSTRA’S GUSTYS TOPS DIVISION I IN REBOUNDS: Hofstra junior Rokas Gustys grabbed 25 rebounds in the Pride’s 65-57 win over South Dakota on Nov. 23, which is the most by any NCAA Div. I player this season. Gustys, who also had 23 rebounds in Hofstra’s seasonopening victory over Coppin State, leads the na on with 13.5 rebounds per game. Last season, Gustys had six games with at least 20 boards and ranked second na onally with 13.0 rpg. He’s had 10 or more rebounds in seven contests this season and has recorded three double-doubles. The 25 rebounds ed Navy All-American David Robinson (1986) for the second-most rebounds in a game in CAA history and was just one off the conference mark of 26 set by William & Mary’s David Cully in 1996.

SIX CAA PLAYERS NOMINATED FOR GOOD WORKS TEAM: Six CAA men’s basketball players are nominees for the Allstate NABC Good Works Team. Nominees are CofC’s Evan Bailey, Elon’s Luke Eddy, Hofstra’s Rokas Gustys, UNCW’s Chris Flemmings, Towson’s Eddie Keith II and W&M’s Paul Rowley. The Allstate NABC Good Works Teams® recognize players at all levels of college basketball whose charitable involvement and altruis c acts stand out amongst all other student-athletes par cipa ng in the sport. FRESHMEN MAKE IMMEDIATE IMPACT: The future appears to be bright based on performances from freshmen around the conference. Drexel guard Kurk Lee has scored double figures in all eight games this season and ranks 6th in the league in scoring (16.0 ppg) and 4th in assists (4.5 apg). Hofstra guard Eli Pemberton has reached the 20-point mark four mes, including 22 points at FAU, and ranks 7th in the CAA with 15.3 ppg. CofC guard Grant Riller poured in a career-high 26 points vs. Navy last Thursday and is averaging 10.2 ppg. William & Mary forward Nathan Knight had 14 points and seven rebounds against #12 Louisville and 11 points at #6 Duke. Delaware’s Ryan Daly had a team-high 19 points and seven rebounds at La Salle. December 10, 2016 UNCW, ELON RANKED IN LATEST MID-MAJOR POLL: UNCW remained 5th and Elon stayed at #23 in the latests CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major Top 25 poll that was released on December 5. Hofstra and College of Charleston were among other teams receiving votes in the poll. UNCW PICKED TO WIN CAA TITLE: UNCW, which returns three starters from last year’s 25-win team that captured its first CAA championship since 2006, has been picked to win the CAA men’s basketball championship in 2016-17 according to a vote of the league’s coaches, media rela ons directors and media members. The Seahawks were followed in the vo ng by Towson, William & Mary and College of Charleston. Chosen fi h was James Madison, followed by Hofstra, Northeastern, Elon, Drexel and Delaware. EIGHT ALL-CONFERENCE PLAYERS RETURN: The CAA welcomes back eight players who earned all-conference honors in 2015-16, including three first-team honorees in UNCW guard Chris Flemmings, Hofstra forward/center Rokas Gustys and William & Mary guard/ forward Omar Prewi . Back from the second team is Towson forward William Adala Moto. Returning from the third team are College of Charleston forward Jarrell Brantley, UNCW guard Denzel Ingram, College of Charleston guard Cameron Johnson and Towson guard Mike Morsell. MAJORITY OF STARTERS ARE BACK: There will be plenty of familiar faces around the CAA as the league’s 10 teams return 60% (30-of-50) of their starters from last season. College of Charleston returns all five regulars from 2015-16, while Elon and James Madison have four starters back and UNCW, Towson and William & Mary return three starters. EIGHT CAA TEAMS RANKED IN TOP HALF OF FINAL RPI: Eight CAA teams were ranked in the top half of the final NCAA RPI report in 2015-16. UNCW led all CAA squads at #52, followed by Hofstra (#57), William & Mary (#72), James Madison (#106), Northeastern (#114), College of Charleston (#138), Towson (#156) and Elon (#162). The CAA was ranked #9 among the na on’s 32 Division I conferences, which matched the highest ranking (2010-11) in CAA history. CAA WELCOMES NEW COACHES: The CAA welcomes three new head coaches to the conference this season. Zach Spiker takes over at Drexel a er spending the past seven seasons as head coach at Army West Point. With the Cadets, he compiled 102 victories, including a 19-14 mark in 2015-16. Louis Rowe returns as head coach James Madison, where was an All-CAA player for the Dukes (1993-94 and 1995-96) and also served as an assistant coach. He was most recently an assistant coach at Bowling Green. Delaware will be led by new head coach Mar n Ingelsby, who spent the past 13 years as an assistant at Notre Dame for former Blue Hens’ coach Mike Brey. During his me with the Irish, Ingelsby helped guide the team to eight NCAA Tournament appearances. PILING UP THE WINS: Five CAA teams (Hofstra, UNCW, James Madison, Towson and William & Mary) reached the 20-win mark last season and eight squads had at least 16 victories. It was the first me in the 31-year history of the CAA that the conference had eight teams with at least 16 overall wins. UNCW’s 25 wins ed a school record, while Hofstra’s 24 wins were the most since 2005-06. James Madison reached 20 wins for the fourth me in eight years, Towson hit 20 wins for the second me in the last three seasons, and William & Mary reached 20 wins for the third straight year. VARIETY OF CHAMPIONS: Six different schools have won the CAA Men’s Basketball Championship over the past six years. The most recent champions are Old Dominion (2011), VCU (2012), James Madison (2013), Delaware (2014), Northeastern (2015) and UNCW (2016).
