Approval of Agenda
Roaf-Little made a motion to accept the agenda; Bronskill seconded the motion; Vote: YES-all
Announcement of Resignation from Board
Bronskill announced that he was relocating for family reasons and was therefore resigning from the Board of Education; he thanked the board for the great opportunity to work with them and his appreciation for each of them teaching him so much. He also highlighted a student who encouraged him to run for school board and her quest of going from an average student to taking Advanced Placement classes, taking the ACT numerous times and eventually obtaining a score allow her to go to any college of her choice. Bronskill’s resignation was effective immediately and he left after his briefing.

Textbook Adoption
Mrs. Monica King was invited to the meeting to discuss the textbook companies she has had contact with regarding science textbooks. HMH and Pearson were the two companies Mrs. King was in contact with and each company made presentations to her and the teachers. Discovery Education also made presentations to the teachers. Wilkins stated that while the science standards have been updated, the teachers were able to develop plans and would be able to face the new standards and succeed. Mrs. King said the teachers’ learning curve would be too great for most of the district science teachers. Dabner asked Mrs. King which company she would recommend and Mrs. King stated HMH. Roaf-Little asked Dr. Robinson what was his recommendation and he stated Discovery Education for their cutting edge curriculum to move the district science education forward. Mrs. King stated that the district science teachers would not be able to develop their lesson plans. Dabner stated that with the district’s technology capabilities going down often in 2016-2017 would make the mostly electronic Discovery Education materials difficult to use. Horace made a motion to accept what the teachers and Mrs. King recommended and adopted the HMH textbooks. Jackson seconded the motion. Roll Call Vote: Dabner-YES, Horace-YES, Jackson-YES, Roaf-Little-YES, Wilkins-No, Woods-YES. Vote carried 5 to 1 in favor of HMH as the science textbook provider. 4.
