Camera Confident Trick #6

The photograph you’re having taken is likely going to be seen by someone else in some way, shape or form. You want that other person to connect with you in your photograph. My favorite trick for connecting with your viewer is squinting your eyes. This might seem counter productive as most people try to widen their eyes when smiling, but that just looks unnatural. Peek through the lens at your viewer and tell them a hysterical story with your eyes. To piggy-back off of squinting, raise and lower your eyebrows depending on the situation. Maybe this is a business photograph and you want to look approachable yet professional. Keep your eyebrows lowered and the relaxed and easy-to-approach side of you will show through. Raise your eyebrows up and the exciting, effervescent and fun-to-be-around side will show through.
