Finished Size: 42½” x 54½”. All blocks finish to 6”. Cut and piece this super-quick-and-easy quilt in just a few hours using our hand printed “What Cancer Cannot Do” Panel. Use care to make sure the word squares are all oriented the same direction. Note: WOF in cutting directions means, “Width of Fabric”. Where you see this, cut across from selvage to selvage.
Block A1 - Make 6 Block A2 - Make 6 Block B - Make 18
Block C - Make 16
“What Cancer Cannot Do” Panel for Block A & Row 1 ¼ yard for Block A (fat quarter will work) 2 coordinating 3/8 yards for Block B 3 coordinating ¼ yards for Block C (fat quarters will work) ½ yard for Binding 5/8 yard for Block D
Block D - Make 14
Cut Cancer panel into horizontal strips, using cut marks. Do not cut apart into rectangles or trim ends. For Row 1, trim “What Cancer Cannot Do” title strip to 18½” wide, making sure words are centered. For Block A, cut 2 - 3½” x WOF strips (or 4 - 3½” x 22” strips from fat quarter) For Block B, cut 3 - 3½” x WOF strips each of 2 coordinating prints. For Block C, cut 3 - 2½” x WOF strips each of 3 coordinating prints.(or 6 each of 3 coordinating prints from fat quarters) For Block D, cut 3 - 6½” WOF strips; subcut into 14 - 6½” squares. For Title Block in Row 1, cut 1 - 2¼” x WOF strip from binding fabric; subcut into 2 - 2¼” x 18½” rectangles. For Binding, cut 5 - 1¾” x WOF strips for Press-Perfect Binding**. If you have a preferred binding technique, there is enough yardage to cut 2½” strips.

Assemble the following: Sew all seams right sides together (RST) using scant 1/4” seams.
Row 1
Blocks are all strip pieced, then cut to 6½” square (excluding title strip).
Rows 2 & 6
Block A1 - Make 6
Rows 3, 5, 7, & 9
Block A2 - Make 6
Rows 4 & 8
Use horizontal rows from Cancer panel. Blocks A are identical except that on two strips, stitch the coordinate to top long edge of word strip, and on the other two, stitch coordinate to bottom long edge. Note that when you lay out quilt top, they alternate: half of the sayings at the top of the block, half at the bottom. Press seams away from word rectangles. Cut across short direction, into 6½” sections, using cut marks on sayings strip. Hand printed fabric may have shrunk slightly during printing. If cut marks are less than 6½” apart, cut outer rectangles outside the cut marks, to 6½”. Cut center word rectangle on cut marks, then fudge slightly to match seams when joining blocks.
Using the diagram above for reference, assemble nine rows. Note that we have added randomness by rotating the pieced blocks to change placement of coordinates. Refer to image above to rotate blocks in rows 2, 4, 6, & 8; refer to image of completed quilt on page 1 to assemble Rows 1, 3, 5, 7, & 9. For row 1, press seams away from word strip; press other seams toward Block D. For rows, 3, 5, and 7 & 9, press seams toward Block D. For rows 2, 4, 6, & 8, make sure to alternate the two different A Blocks as you see in diagram above. Press seams away from word blocks. Matching seams and edges, join the rows. Layer, Quilt, Bind**, Enjoy!
Block B - Make 18 Using 3½” strips, stitch 2 coordinates together along long edges. Press seams toward darker fabric. Cut across short direction, into 6½” sections to make 18 - 6½” squares.
Block C - Make 16 Using 2½” strips, stitch 3 coordinates together along long edges. Press seams toward darker fabric. Cut across short direction, into 6½” sections to make 16 - 6½” squares. Title Block Trim “What Cancer Cannot Do” strip to 18½” wide, making sure words are centered. (You established height of this strip by cutting into horizontal strips along cut marks) Stitch one 2¼” x 18½” coordinate to top and one to bottom of title strip.
