NOTES SCOUTING PITT Pitt is coming of a winning weekend going 3-0 in the Armed Services Classic.Junior third baseman Joe Leonard was named Most Valuable Player as he went 6-14 at the plate, tallied 10 assists, seven RBI and two runs on the weekend. SCOUTING ALBANY Albany heads into the weekend coming off three tough losses in its season opener to UNC Greensboro (6-1). Only meeting once in the past, Pitt leads the all-time series between the two schools 1-0. SCOUTING BALL STATE Ball State is 2-5 heading into the weekend. The Cardinals traveled to UAB (3-2) last weekend for four games. Ball State won the first game and dropped the remaining three. Pitt and Ball State will meet for the first time on Friday night. Pitt has only met one other team in the West MAC, Toledo. SCOUTING COASTAL CAROLINA Coastal Carolina heads into the weekend 7-1 on a 5 game winning stint. Coastal Carolina leads the all time series 3-2. Senior catcher for the Chants, Jose Iglesias, was named Big South Conference’s Choice Hotels Player of the Week posting a .526 batting average, 4 RBI and 4 doubles this past weekend. SCOUTING TOLEDO Toledo is 2-1 heading into the weekend suffering its only loss to Pitt last weekend. This will mark the second meeting in the schools histories. STRONG START The Panthers have the best starting record they have ever had in eight years. In 2002 Pitt won its first eight games and ended the season 36-16-1. With the majority of the lineup returning, Head Coach Joe Jordano is optimistic about his chances at a Big East title. NEW MAN ON CAMPUS Pitt’s new transfer, Travis Whitmore (Indian Hills CC), is starting strong for Pitt. Whitmore has started all six games at second base and has the fourth highest batting average on the team with .379. Whitmore has 11 hits and scored 5 runs on 29 total at bats, collecting five doubles, once triple and 7 RBI.
